Camera Mount Test and Fail

Canyon Carver

Just trying out a new camera angle/mount setup. Using suction mount. Didn't work out so well... If you get impatient, skip to 3:32.

I was testing out a new camera angle. Put the suction cup on the fairing between my seat and the passenger seat. Worked fine for a few miles and up to around 100mph, but I think the bumpy road did it in. Put it back on after it fell off and it held fine, but I didn't go as far. I was done recording shortly after. I made a tether out of some 1/16" steel cable and a furrel and stop (tutorials on youtube) and that's all that saved my camera.

And curse this website for not letting me edit... :(

Suction mounts are the most unreliable you can use. Unless you attach them to something glass and even then, the mount can break.
I bought 3 of those, only 1 left. The other two broke in different parts.
Good you tethered the camera, I use mostly cellphone straps/lanyards attached to the turn signals, handlebar, pegs or whatever piece of bike I have close.
Once I tried attaching a camera tripod (inside its carrying case) to the side of my bike using zipties, the ties were crap quality, they broke and I dragged and broke parts of the tripod and the case for I don't know what distance until I noticed.
