Hi All!

Just joined up , glad theres a site like this in place.

Does anyone know any information on the laws surrounding upload footage of yourself speeding in this country ?

I have recently started a channel and in a clip im in a straightline race with one of my friends where we get to about 125 MPH.

Is it best to blur the speedo? Is there a disclaimer or circumstances that exempt me from prosecution etc ?

I appreciate being safe and know that there is a time and a place for these things, just hoping for some answers so i can sleep at night

thank you

There's certainly no disclaimer, although edited (speed altered) footage, obfuscation and binning the original might mean insufficient evidence to bring about prosecution. Or just stick to the speed limit? :p ;)

Gonna be one of those things where you would be taking a chance on it. There's many folk who will claim the Police have better things to do than find out who the footage actually belongs to, but then again, with the increase in footage on YT of dubious legality, you never know if they're going to start considering it like they sometimes do in Australia.

To bring about prosecution they would need to prove who was riding*, prove the speed** and it need to be beyond reasonable doubt if it went to trial. If found guilty of more than (around) 50% over the speed limit (something like that anyway) the rider would face an almost certain ban, and possibly a bit of time as well if the courts deemed you to be stopped enough, and/or based on any previous motoring convictions.

* With fixed penalty cameras, the responsibility is the registered keeper, may also apply in cases like this, but consider that your helmet if in shot could be a giveaway.
** Could be tricky, but the rate at which white lines pass the field of view and other things like lamp posts could give away your speed by calculating time over a given distance.

If your account and channel go quiet, we'll know why :)

You are solely responsible for your actions. We all break the law sometimes, even if we feel we are just bending it a little, so it's mainly about excess.

If you choose to upload a video showing you travelling (and racing) at very high speeds and you are on a public road, and the cops come a-knocking, you need to be aware that you chose that route. And the newspaper headlines would be rather damning in terms of how you stitched yourself up.

So hard to do this, there has to be an easy way to do it.
Blurring? It's quite easy. If you don't have an editor that supports motion tracking to blur just the dials, just blur the whole bottom 10% of your screen, or whatever amount is necessary. Plenty of tutorials on YT for most editors.
