Blown exhaust on bike less than year old

I've been wondering about this for quite a while. It seems my exhaust is blowing but my bike isn't even a year old, 9000km on clock.

Should this be covered under warranty or is it part of normal wear and tear? Would be rather pissed at having to pay for a new exhaust so early on a new bike

They will claim its wear and tear but IMO that should not happen at all within 12 months

No idea. Because of the fairing, can't get to the connection. One of the things I loved about the bike at first was how quiet it was, but it now seems much much louder. Which is why I am assuming something is wrong - could be baffles or could be connection to engine.

Funny how things slowly creep up on you and you just don't notice them - like being able to handle a bath warming up if you are already in it, but try to get in at that temperature and it's impossible.

As Coda said, I would find it hard to accept as standard wear and tear if there is an issue.

Ah ok .... First .. Yes it could be blown .... But ... Exhausts do get throatier .. A little... As I have noticed around/after 10 thou ... Could be it ... but without video/audio and knowing the bike then how to determine?

.... Could be loose exhaust pipe bolts/studs .... A loose fitting or weld .... You have taken it to the same dealer for service as per warranty? ... Or at least a recognised mechanic?

In any case .. There is much prelim investigation to be done before knowing it is 'blown' ... Fairings are NOT hard to remove!! ... Bolts are not hard to check for looseness ... Though tightening them up should be done with care...

If you take it to dealer for investigation ... Then politely but very firmly insist on being able to watch them do the check through for the sound/problem ... Unless you have no spare time or completely know and trust the stealer... Err sorry .. Dealer!! ..

They will probably try to make out its wear and tear.... So you point out that you have cleaned it, you have made sure the maintenance is up to date...it IS in the warranty period ... You would like this referred through head office (if they get difficult) ... All very matter of fact and POLITE!!

Not saying you aren't polite!! .. But verbal grease works wonders when you want/need something done on vehicle warranty type things!

Cheers Janx, I agree there is a lot of prelim investigation to be done. And me, unpolite? You know me too well.

The bike has been well cleaned regularly and serviced as per instructions and all work undertaken at the same dealer I bought it from, no scratches and no bumps and no crashes.

It could be just a loose nut (or I could be? lol), it could be just getting throatier. I checked one of my older videos going down my backstreet and compared with my latest recording from yesterday on the same road - couldn't tell any difference. So it could be that my open face helmet just lets in more noise.

I think I'm just being paranoid.

Yeah, when i chuck my open face on. The world is clearer, and noisier.
Do you do many (if any) Key Bangers?? (engine off, accell., then on - BANG). I was in a mates Mazda Rx3, worked 13B, he did one. Pumped the peddle HEAPS, then ign - BANG!!
The muffler blew a hole in the side...sounded Great after that, Very noisy, but thats what was great! Brep-Brep-Brep-Brep (rotory sound)

Baffles (fibreglass -temp resist) do burn-out. Some have either mesh or a maze of plates, so the sound bafles as it travels thru muffler.
Apart from that id check nuts n bolts. Not sure tho, as Janx said "without hearing it".

Ive got a cpl of bikes with the std exhaust still, and after 20-30yrs their still 'alive'. They dont burnout/wear that fast.
It 'should' be under warranty.
