Hi, i will have about £1000 to spend on a 125 in august, i want to know which one is the best to buy, I don't want a 2 stroke, also I did a CBT when i was 16 will i have to do another one when i'm 17?

Ypu dont need another CBT, but I'd reccomend some training on a geared bike. You cant really go wrong with a CG125, as theyre bulletproof and easy on petrol.
I've got a YBR and I love it, but I'm not sure if theres any going for less than 1k

cool thanks :)
yeah i have been looking at CG125's i also like the GN 125
i have some geared bike training as i used to ride my mates pitbike around his woods, but not enough experience i dont think
and im looking mainly for reliability as my current scooter is a piece of crap that constantly develops problems, in fact its having its starter coil replaced on monday, i know that a 125 wont hit more than 65 anyway

Surely you'd need to do a CBT on a geared 125 after I assume you did it on a 50cc moped?

CGs are probably some of the most reliable bikes in existence.

Nope a CBT is just to make sure your safe on the road. You dont need a CBT to ride a geared bike if you did your CBT on a moped.

I'm assuming your 16 now?
Just wondering because of how you phrased the first post, and in the "I ride a:" bit you've put 70ccs.

Just so you know, that's illegal :P

No, you won't need to do another CBT until yours runs out 2 years after taking it.

Remember you're not going to get anything fantastic for £1000. CG would probably be your best bet. Just cross your fingers on Honda reliability :P

Wait, so I could have done the most easy motoring assessment in existence on a puny 50cc moped which has no manual gears and be deemed safe, but then go onto a bike with twice the power as well as gears and still be deemed safe!?

Yep! But when you put it like that it seems bad :P

That's actually ridiculous! The idea of a CBT being adequate training for new riders is bad enough but that just takes the piss!

i did my cbt on a auto 50 because no wear stocks geared 50s i then road my geared ts 50 with a 70 bore for a year with not a single problem (never ridden a bike before i bought my 50) then got onto my dt that is stupudly more powerfully without a problem.

if you do it on a moped chance is your 16 and will ride a bike for a wile before you get a 125 so you can ride to a safeish extent so then learning gears is easy with a 4t.

now for some useful imput into the thread.

the older cg's are fine i know some people who have them and they like them one has come off-roading with me aswell =] they do silly amounts of miles on little fuel and parts are dirt cheap for them.

and nothing wrong with 2 strokes =]

ok i shall look for a CG then :)
well i know 2 strokes are awesome! i mean my ped accelerates quite fast for the small engine it has :) but i just do not want to shed out loads of money for repairs! but thanks for all your suggestions guys :)

I can't really add much to this discussion, but I just wanted to say that the Honda CG is a cracking bike. I did my CBT on one and you could not wish for an easier bike to ride. Fairly nippy for a 125 too, brisk acceleration up to 50mph.
