Battery woes.

Yes I bought a very similar thing recently.

Charges the Drift pretty quickly and can also power it solely on its own, you can take the drift battery completely out and just use the USB power pack.

Handy to have to charge phones etc too

Definitely worth getting one for under £20, more flexible than just buying a couple of extra drift batteries

I've got a couple of 12v sockets on my bike and it's still easier to use a powerpack

Why not Wire in a Cigarette plug on ya bike?? Then you can charge ANYTHING.
It wont be too much load for the Batt., You can get em from any Electronics shop, Auto parts store, etc.

First Mod i do before any tour.
Just remember to Un-plug before walking away from the bike lol.

The plug in charger is something I may do at some point. I think I prefer the idea of the power bank because I almost always carry a back pack, and that can go in there no trouble. No faffing about with wires flapping around all over the place either I would have thought.

The other advantage of a power pack is that if you're on a ride out you can charge your drift/phone during lunch without having to leave the bike running

Good to have a 12v socket as well tho for sure :)

Ideally I'd want a 12v socket for a GPS. I am going to Nottingham sometime in the spring so would be very handy. It's about 210 miles of buggering about otherwise.

Wont it be too much load on the camera though? Constantly being charged while its recording aswell?

Ive just bought this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal...ories_MobilePhoneChargers&hash=item3a6e594a7c and it will charge it 10x faster than the drift itself, it also seems to record for longer. If i charge the battery inside the Drift via a pc, it will record for about 1.5hrs on 1080p 30fps where if i charge it on the dock, it will record for 2hrs.

Im not sure. Ive tried charging my drift through the mains and I never really noticed any difference.. When I bought the adapter, I really realised the difference. I found this miracle by accident actually.. I had the issue of charging both batteries over night, so this universal charger popped up.

Like in a Vehicle, your Voltage Regulator (built in ANY charging system), will stop it at full charge, then start when it drops to a certain level, continuously. Never going over the limits set by the manuf. If it does, thats a dud product.
You can leave it charging till the bike goes flat. WONT hurt the Cam/Bike.

This will NOT hurt the product or Bike.
Just remember, you HAVE TO UNPLUG before walking away, coz its REALLY Embarrissing whenu get ya neck jurked back, coz your 'Dog Lead' snagged ya. lol

Not sure on the new Lithium batteries, but when a NiCad batt. didnt run as long as it used to. They get a 'Memory Lock' in charging, its like it only charges to 80% or less. then less & less & less, over time. NiCads you'd put em in the fridge overnight, that'd give em a TOTAL disscharge and usually get rid of the 'Lock' level.

Check this link, hava read. youll find it simpler thanu think to Renew/Recycle your Li-Ion batts.

Charging from the Pc or USB,
A Pc's power is 240v stepped down to 5-12v, and the ampage/wattage is really LOW, thats why ALL charging via USB port is slow and doesnt allways charge fully. (which will damage battery over time, ALLWAYS do via 240v for longer life)

But, its apparently good business to supply crappy batteries in products, just to get re-sale of new ones.

Cheaper, isnt allways better when getn new batteries. But looking after them and servicing them will prolong their life. But all batteries die eventually, just ALLWAYS before their use life :(

Hope it helps and doesnt confuse you more.
