Background noise

Hi all

So I recently brought a GoPro 7 black, GoPro mic adapter and Rode mic. I also brought some helmet mics from Amazon.

When I connect the Rode mic and record in a silent room I get a bit of background noise, like a fuzz kind of sound.

I’ve tried to turn the WiFi off but it still happens, I’ve also tried all the mic settings in the GoPro but it’s still there. I used the Rode cable to the mic adapter that came with the mic.

Am I missing something simple? My settings are currently standard mic input, RAW audio low and I’ve set the wind to auto (although also tried with wind on).

Any suggestions / comments would be most welcome.

Cheers

How big was the room? Actually a room is not a good place to test, because sound bounces easily off the walls and you can get the "cave" type of background sound. Perhaps try having a denser microphone sock or dead-cat to diminish the background noise.

Inside a house you will get all sorts of electrical interference, the wind noise setting on the GoPro only affects the internal camera microphones.

Hi guys,

Apologies I have another question, I’ve just done a ride with the helmet mic (the one Hippo recommended from amazon).

When playingback it only comes out one one ear (I’m using headphones) is this correct or do I need to change a setting?

Cheers

That doesn't sound right, it is a stereo mic so should come out both speakers. Are you 100% it was fully connected to the mic adapter on your GoPro?

Yeah I think so, I did note you said they are easily breakable so got 2, I’ll test the other one in the morning, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a setting I was missing.

I’ve tested the other mic, it works perfectly, thanks for all the help in setting me up.... I guess my next posts will be in the editing forum
