New to me too.

I still think most people put them on to encourage others to drive carefully around them though, even if that's not their intended purpose.

I doubt anyone removes the sign when the baby isn't with them as they're supposed to do.

Huh , I never knew that :o ! I always though the sign was saying how happy the parents were to have a baby :p !

The sign is great and all until you're into a high impact car crash... then the suction cup will just pop off. Get some epoxy or something :p ~

I knew it kinda. Still, the majority of the reasoning people use them is in an attempt to warn other drivers to be more careful (not like anyone cares). Even though the initial reason was to alert first responders, and although first responders still pay attention to it, the reason people have them is different from their purpose. Like yoga pants.

It's a shame people seem to think it is a safety thing, and should be removed when you don't have a baby.

However, one of these and an infant seat gets you prime parking at the supermarket ;) (As does a van or a Porsche apparently...)

I need a sign that says "Road Rage on Board"... that might get people to back off of my bumper :p ...

(actually, no road rage here ;) ~)

Interesting stuff, I never knew that. I also never really had second thoughts on why people put them in their cars but this one makes the most sense. My dad is a paramedic so I'll have to mention this to him and see what he says from a paramedic's point of view.

whenever i have my nephew in the car i put one of the baby on board signs in the back window (paranoid uncle) and it really bugs me that people put them up and leave them in the cars as it really is a warning thing for first responders

Interesting, I always equated that sign to people with stick figure families on the back of their minivan. "No one cares" Won't be so judgmental from now on haha

Never knew it was for that. But it has spawned all those other stickers so I guess the marketing companies never gave two hoots

The vehicles that have those affixed to their rear window are usually the ones holding up the flow of traffic. And really, an EMT will know what is going on when they come up to the vehicle. A car seat is a dead giveaway innit?

So, still annoying. And this comes from a dad with two kids.
