And just think how much of this could have been prevented if only a staff member was carrying a gun...

If it were legal for the staff to carry guns, what makes you think the criminals wouldn't bring guns of their own? One staff member with a pistol is outgunned, literally, by six guys with shotguns or whatever semi-automatic they can get their hands on. I'm sure you'll find plenty of places that conceal a gun behind their counter in gun friendly countries have been robbed too. And statistically, more of those robberies probably ended in loss of life or injuries sustained from shots fired than any robbery in the UK.
