Appeal / Hook

@2WheelVandal
As I've begun to study/do motovlogging more and more I've become to wonder whats so popular with some of the top or most viewed motovloggers hook or appeal is and how they rack up so many views doing the same thing over and over again..

For example, Royal Jordanian is by far the most popular in the UK right now, And by far has the most repeated content but what would you say his hook/appeal is and how he gets so many views just riding around London. Its not just him either, there's a few down under and then those in the states.

Just interested in peoples input on this subject because sometimes it really does baffle me lol

What would you say appeals to the viewer then hooks them to keep coming back?

It is about the complete package, he has an awsome sounding bike and has excellent driving skills, there is "happening a lot" in his vids so it keeps attractive to look at, each time you think what is goin to happen now.

And he has the luxury to take another bike too keep it devers

Repetitiveness is fine if the base package is good, RJ is very consistent qualitywise and his spinoffs are still true to form. It's a matter of finding a balance of consistency and experimentation. If every video is a hit or miss situation you are more likely to lose subs with every vid as opposed to knowing things will work every time.
Game developers has the same problem, introducing too much new stuff alienates some of the playerbase so they have to keep at least 70-80% of the content familiar and experiment with the rest. I think this applies well to videos too, at a smaller scale.

yeah i agree with you guys somewhat. I also believe if you can inflict some sort of emotion into your video, either it be, anger, sadness or happiness that will also create a hook. If you study most viral vids, it creates some sort of emotion whether its anger or humour/happiness.

RJ's initial appeal was his nuda if I'm not mistaken? People just wanted to see the bike and he also happened to be riding around in a popular tourist destination. I don't watch any of his stuff because I find low-speed commuting to be boring in real life let alone on my screen. Also I hate groms lol. I prefer to watch stuff like MaxWrist now. Reckless speed on mountain roads, my jam!

Yeah i totally agree. I like a bit of variety every now and then and whilst RJ has good sound setup, the content is actually very dull and isn't worth viewing week in, week out. He has some interesting bike tastes/choices though. Makes me wonder why these people can afford to have 4+ bikes & a car!

He has almost 1M subs right? Do it with Dan has like 800k? Do it with Dan said in a video that as he was growing he got a check from YouTube and it was 4x his monthly salary, so he just quit his job the next day. Don't underestimate ad revenue if your channel is getting views

Yeah and now that cu*t drives a corvette and rides a zx10r. Not to mention his big f*ck off house and his wide array of guns. sighh, alright for some.

In terms of ad revenue i hear all the youtubers complaining it sucks now. hence patreon etc.. But yeah you're deffo right. You only have to look at KSI, guy bought a lambo from what i believe was ad revenue. And the guy only plays Fifa on PC/Consoles lol :/

I'd offically have a stroke if i saw how much pewdiepie earns from youtube alone.

To put it into perspective because i was curious, pewdiepie made 1.2-18.6k GBP yesterday.

Excuse me whilst i go and shake violently in a fit on the floor lol

I try to keep up on the YT news and I think the figure right now is $1/1000 views for the typical video. And say you're a vlogger posting daily videos that get 2M views, well let's do the math on that. 60M/1000 = $60K per month. AND these big guys have sponsors now. You sign a deal with a company to make content promoting them and you get 6 figure payoffs for the year. They're also selling merch. I can't WAIT to be complaining I'm only making 60k a month when I was making 100 lol. and THEN I'll post a patreon and say "give me more money please I need it" like these guys lmao

Yeah but realistically looking at it, how achievable is 60M views for us "lesser vloggers". The sheer amount of grind you'd have to do would be threefold against my linear income. 60k a month does sound healthy though but the grind could take your years or even a decade or two lol

Yeah thats true! Who knows, one day maybe. I am beginning to think more and more that motovlogging has become saturated and to get noticed you have to do something out of the box. I think most people are more keen to hooliganism these days or educational vlogs than anything else sadly.

For hooliganism, group riding with humour and good banter. Look at Fooligan for example. his channel was only founded in December 2015 and already has 479,247 subs out of 176 videos. You could say his appeal or hook is either the Grom Stunts or banter/group rides.

On the other spectrum, educational vlogs.. well theres loads and everyone new coming into motorcycle will always try to save money on doing oil changes themselves etc. We're motorcycle enthusiasts after-all..

Another thing i have noticed is if you motovlog in the UK and you're not vlogging in London you're gonna have a hard time lol. Looking at London based motovloggers compared to Bumpkin (country/those who live outside London) motovloggers, its clear to see who gets more views regardless of content. But in all honesty, USA takes the cake in terms of views, subs etc... for motovloggers. Must be something to do with Southern accents and the hot weather lol

I fear it IS too saturated... I don't see a way to break out. I might end up changing the direction of my channel entirely. I just want a following of people who will enjoy what I create, but I'm willing to do stuff I wasn't originally thinking of doing in order to get it!

I totally get what you mean. Its a difficult one thats for sure... I'd be happy with a loyal sub base of 1000 to be honest. I also think the more subs you have the easier it is your channel will take off in terms of video view counts
