Anyone Using A Sony Actioncam As20? Steadyshot?

Just wondering what settings you guys use to get good quality output? Seems even my 1080P videos are not really top quality. I film in 1080 60FPS with steadyshot on. Is steady shot reducing quality a bit?

Maybe it's my render settings? I use sony vegas pro to edit.

Just looking for some tips maybe. I won't add a link to my videos unless you want to see, I don't want to advertise in here.

I believe steady shot takes the centre of the image and uses the outer to allow the image to move to keep the subject steady. Try it with it off?

It changes the FOV from 170* to 120* and uses the extra "off screen" to stabilize yes.

I guess I can try it with it off, only downside is i ride an ATV and snowmobile, so things aren't exactly smooth haha

Many digital cameras when they show a narrower FOV, they just crop the image and reexpand it to whatever it's meant to be, hence loss in quality. Same as digital zoom basically.

Hmm, interesting. Did not know that. I'll try with it off. I'm going to try and find a better mounting spot that will hopefully reduce vibrations as well.

Steadyshot screws quality on the sony action cams. It is handy when you are doing some hand held shots. Hell, my first cars and coffee videos where shot with the AS15 and later the AS100 action cam. But one a bike you shouldn't be filming with steady-shot anyway, it will make you seasick when watching! At least, I get seasick!

as mentioned, I'm not on a bike on roads, Im on a quad or snowmobile on rough terrain. I think I filmed one video with steady shot off and it was super shaky. Doesnt look wobbly with it on. But that could also be because I mount my camera to my goggles and its not the tightest fit. trying to find somewhere to mount it solidly on my helmet.

Also depends on what settings you are using to produce the video

I'll grab them when I get home and post up the render settings and see what you think of them. I'll admit I know nothing about video editing so my render settings may be way off.

Maybe the quality is fine and i'm just wanting a better camera who knows haha.

The GoPro doesn't when recording at 1080p.

You have a 4K sensor and then if you choose wide, it down samples the full sensor to 1080p (the opposite of digital zoom).

Choosing narrow takes a 1:1 pixel mapping from the centre of the sensor, so no digital zoom.

Medium is obviously in-between.

You do get unnoticeable degradation due to the optics in the GoPro being non-professional grade, but it's far superior to digital zooming.

Just sharing some knowledge :)

good bunch of info. I've been considering the new gopro, only thing swaying me is the price haha.

If it helps the older Hero 3+ Black is the same internally as the Hero 4 Silver.

this makes the Hero 4 Silver a rip off, but a second hand 3+ Black a bargain.

How does your raw footage look compared to the post prod footage? It might be your rendering settings. Check this out and see if it matches up with what you're using https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en
