An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot worse..

After paying £200 for an MoT, a new rear tyre and little bits and pieces on Friday, I had to lay out another £100 to get it recovered after low siding round a roundabout on Sunday during a ride with Ashpark208 and Crackthepipe999...

Not exactly sure what happened on the cold, dry afternoon - other than getting a bit too confident on a tyre with only a few miles on it - as I leaned in to the right the back seemed to come out from under me! Don't think I was doing more that 25 mph.

Unfortunately I gave the road a bit of a head butt which seemed to annoy my GoPro - as it cut the recording back to about a minute before impact, but Ashpark208 caught it as be was behind me. Hopefully the footage will be up towards the end of the week so we can see what happened.

Thanks to the two guys for hanging around - but no thanks to TIGERvlogger who apparently drove by when we were waiting for recovery - but he was too busy to stop!!! :P

GADDAMMIT!!!!!

Thaat sucks. Yeah...new tires need to be treated like ice for the first 100 miles or so. Especially when the pavement is cold.

Do you have any pictures of the damage?

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

Lesson learnt! Seeing as the wheel and tyre took a knock against the curb, I'll probably need another new one now!

Can't upload the one I have from my phone. Away with work this week, so will post when I can.

Snapped the subframe the front fairing and mirror is mounted on, as well as the left mirror falling off(?). It slid on the clutch cover which stopped the clutch from spinning - otherwise I reckon I could have ridden it home. Other than that its mainly the fairings that took the damage...

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

Be fair, I didnt KNOW it was you guys and I had no idea you were in need of recovery AND you were on the left road off the roundabout I was turning right on :p

Such a shitty thing to happen at anytime esp after laying out a load of dosh on it though. As I said any help I can be, helping with repairs or whatever gimmie a ring and we'll sort something. Just glad your ok ;)

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

Ha, alright, I'll let you off!

I'm going through my videos now and I keep having to remind myself of the new tyre after I picked it up on Friday - if only I would have remembered on Sunday!!!

Okay, cheers for the offer. I will have a chat with our mechanic to see if he can pick it up. Just want to get it running again, I'll start looking for replacement body work. I'm pretty sure there's a huge market for cheap replacement 749 Dark Monoposto parts - right? :/

Snapped the subframe aswell? Sounds like a serious case of the unluckies! Sorry to hear... such a nice bike too

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

Iv edited the footage and im rendering it as we speak, should take a couple hours, i'll try to get it uploaded tomorrow

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

Hi buddy how's the bike now? Sucks that it happened! You was going at the same speed as me, so it really dose show me how careful you need to be on new tires! Hope you get back out there soon especially of the weather picks up :)

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

No updates as I've been away with work this week, and am away next week too! Will see if I can get it collected by the guy at R.A.D. Was planning on getting a GS soon so went looking in Motorrad yesterday - that way I might be back on two wheels quicker than expected!

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

That sucks man, video really doesn't show anything crazy, just unlucky. Hope you get back in the saddle soon :)

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

As I just commented on the vid, very unlucky.

It didn't look like you were pushing the limits at all. You did tighten your line a little over the damp patch, and I guess just the little bit of throttle was enough to lift the front ant wash it out...

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

Cheers JollyRoger - I hope so too!

NastyEvilNinja - yeah I took to wide a line going into it which was the problem. Although I hadn't started to increase the throttle, that's where the new tyre played it's part i reckon!

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

Update!

Had the bike picked up by a local mechanic and asked him to have a look when he can, as I'm not in a particular rush. Visited the bike today and:

- Clutch = destroyed!
- Rear wheel = cracked!
- Front sub frame = no replacement exists on the planet!
- Fairing damage = least of my worries...

No bloody way!!! All that from a 20 mph slip??? That's terrible

Go hard, or go home.

I'm sorry, what I actually meant was, go soft then go home in a recovery truck...

Ow! Sorry to hear about that! What's the plan?
No worries :) was a while ago now so I'm over it.

The guy is going to ring around to give me an idea on the price. I wouldn't mind it taking a while to spread the cost...then when it's fixed I can trade it in for a nice new, shiny Panigale :P

Re: An expensive weekend that's about to get a whole lot wor

It didn't seem that bad, until I re-watched the footage. That curb must have done you in on that rear tire for sure. It is hard to believe such a "little" accident causes so much damage.

Yeah, it was basically all down to that curb. The spinning rear wheel I guess caused the bike to spin and hit the wheel first - then the front sub frame, all the while dragging on the clutch!

Thinking about it, it's quite good for my first 'off', I didn't suffer lasting injuries but am still feeling the effects months on, to remind me of the lesson I was taught that day! :)
