Morning chaps!

I ordered a 25kW restrictor kit for a BMW R1200ST (don't lynch me) from Alpha Technik (with the help of google translate) this morning for 115 euro. I was pleased with this, thinking I saved myself a lot of money by getting the kit directly from Germany....turns out I wasn't as clever as I thought I was! I get an e-mail a few hours later from them informing me they've cancelled my order and that I have to get it from their UK importer (Fi International). Now, as you can probably guess I'm not too keen on spending 180 pounds on a few bits of metal that's only really worth half, if not less, than that.

Wee bit pissed off that they've done this, and that they even can do it (can they?). Does anyone know if there's another way for me to not have to spend that ridiculous amount of money?

jesus christ a 33bhp RT1200, let me know if it still moves after you get the restrictor on it, :D just kidding

it is a complete rip off to get bikes restricted here in the UK but sometimes youve just got to grin and bear it, my insurance company for example would not insure me if i did not have the FI international kit fitted by a qaulified engineer

i had to pay £200 to get my ER6f restricted and the kit itself is just a screw in the throtle

you can try to ask around at different garages for the best deal or score the internet but you may just have to pay full price (but make sure you check with you insurer before doing anything)

It's a tricky one, my FZ6 set me back the normal price from FI International, for a 2' by 1' piece of metal with two screws in, what you're really paying for is the certificate. You can't blame them though, if you were the only supplier of a product nearly every new motorcyclist needs wouldn't you want to make a fair bit off it?

Yeah, it's a pain. My Fazer cost £250 to restrict

Damn Fi International!

Which isn't even a legal requirement. The whole business is a massive rip off.

You could go and buy a 99p bit of wood and glue it to your bike, and as long as it effectively restricted the power enough, it'd be allowed. Silly really.

Hi ashpark I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I spoke to an engineer that worked for Kawasaki for many years and he told me that if they try to charge a large ammount, there just ripping you off, he said the throttle restrictor is £30 RRP. Now I'm not 100% because I haven't actually done this myself but I was talking to him about restricting a ER6N (one of the bike I'm thinking about getting post mod2)

If it was a recent restriction I would defiantly kick off at the people who charged you £200 :-/

*i didn't write this to piss you off but just to let you know incase you can get a refund*

hmm, intresting to know, are you looking at buying a new er6 from a dealership, if so im not surprised (triumph only wanted £35 to restrict a new street tripple) dealerships seem to be alot cheaper when it comes to resticting. i got my bike second hand from a used bike dealership and i don't think its them ripping me off because they didn't actually charge me any laboure the £200 was simply to buy in the FI international kit (they showed me there invoice from FI)
