Alpha Dot - can't really recommend it

Just spent 45 minutes alpha-dotting my bike - got half the dots on my hands and in my hair. Registration online was simple. Got it cheap at the Donny Bike Safe event in June and just put it on

Anyone else use this security system - happy with final result, what insurance rebate can be expected, any other things to note?

Yeah, i saw Data-Dot YEARS ago(10ish), thought it was a fantastic idea.
How they get the little tiny numbers on a disc that has to be put under a micro-scope, IDK, wow is all i say!!

Good idea, Obvious applications and rewards of doing it.
Im just WAY TOO much of a tight-ass to spend the cash though.

Hope you never have to go to the Motorbike morgue to Id your bike!
Cheers.

I don't know if you have full insurance but the last thing I want is finding my bike if it has been stolen.
It's like 99% chance that, if they find your bike, it was raped (scratched, cracked, used carelessly, maybe even broken or blown up).
I prefer to never find it again, collect the insurance money and buy another bike.

I'd love to know the success rate of alphadot. I guess if anything it could help prosecute people handling stolen goods but if your bike is stolen and the insurance is paid out then it's lost on yourself.

Yeah but....er....mmmmm....

I got it cheap at a Bikesafe Show in Donny (£15). But applying it just makes your bike look like shit, and if it is visible easily to the naked eye, it's easy to rub it off. Which makes it a bit pointless, other than I now have my certificate and I may make my money back in one year at my next renewal.

It does work quite well on chrome, silver and glass, but not on dark plastic.

I'd be quite happy to get my bike back if it meant the scroat who nicked it got caught. He'd only get a slap on the wrist though and be back out 5 mins later buying spliffs and robbing houses

Not used it but ... LOL ...

Look at it this way .. If you don't get all the dots off your body .... And then get drunk and can't remember where you live ... Take yourself to the cops or whoever has a scanner ... " S'cuse meee mista! ... Can you scans me so I can gets home? .. Pleashe ?! " .. :D

My KTM comes with a "nanodot" as standard. Certainly cant see it. Not sure if its in the paint or what. But, my insurance was $19 cheaper (roughly 14 pound), so yours will pay itself off. I think the sticker that says "this bike is protected by blahblah dot" is a deterrent, but otherwise, its just useful for the police to use as evidence.
