Adding Text In Blender 2.74 With Gimp2

Hey All.

I am editing my first videos ever and found that GoPro Studio, while fast and easy, lacks some features.

While trying to avoid spending money, at least at the beginning of my motovlog career, I found a very good open source software. Blender.

This software has one feature missing, which is to add text to the videos. There is a way around it, using the 3d rendering part of it to create images of what you want to say. This I found to confusing, so I never tried.

What I did instead was to install GIMP2 (open source photoshop). Now I create an image of the text in GIMP2 and delete the background layer. Export as a PNG and import in blender where desired. Takes about one minute to create and import the image in blender. Then follow the regular steps to position the new image in the video.

Hopefully someone finds this useful as some new motovloggers might not want to spend money on Adobe or Sony software until they are sure this is something they want to pursue regularly.

I guess you can apply this to any editor should you want to manipulate a font for any reason and it can't be done in your chosen editor.
