Several of you I have met and consider friends already know of my bad news but its probably time I told the rest of the world (well motovlog, lol).
On Saturday the 1st I finished my nightshift and as it was stunning weather decided I would clean my bike, it needed it after my big cornwall trip and I had planned to go to a quiet nearby road that afternoon to record some footage towards my YT channel trailer, get some good pics etc. I scrubbed it down good, everything got cleaned even the sprockets
I got up that afternoon, sorted out my bike gear and headed out. I had my caberg lid, leather jacket and armoured kevlar jeans along with my biking boots and gloves.
Aware that my tyres were cold and I had just left home, I ignored the Audi R8 tearing off in front of me as tempted as I was, I was on a mission to get pics of my nice clean bike. I accelarated to the speed limit ish (not being silly) and around half a mile or so I saw the audi slow and start braking, (I was under 60 at this point) I also saw a f&ck off big tractor heading our way with its wheels entirely on our side of the road. The audi was tight to the kerb and the tractor wheels and had come to a stop. Both the audi and I were braking for several hundred feet (5 secs or more Id say) with a huge gap between us at the point I started to brake, unfortunately for me very little happened for most of that time spent braking. At the last moment I jamp on the brakes, locking the front end bike goes down and bike and I smash into the rear of the R8. He saw me coming and accelerated hard taking a lot of the force out of the impact but it hurt.
I would liken what happened to brake fade when brakes overheat, little happens and its too late before you can do anything. I had no where to go but hit the car. Nobody was hurt (minor injuries for me), R8 had superficial damage, lol. All my gear needs replaced. Tiger is essentially dead. It has a cracked frame, damage to rear can, LH side swing arm, tank, dash and headlight cluster is demolished, fairings, lights etc, foot peg etc etc. Used parts are over £800 just for the damage I can see. Bad news is I was third party only and it turns out I have a very high voluntary excess I will admit I didnt realise (ALWAYS READ THE SMALL PRINT).
I had a bad burn and some swelling to my right knee where the armour slid down my shin, L elbow badly bruised and I hurt like id been beaten the next day, lol
So WTF happened?
My best guess is that when I scrubbed the bike clean and polished it that the stupid final act of spraying the black trim, mirrors and TYRE walls with Simoniz black trim and tyre spray also coated my discs, whether it sitting in the sun all day before taking it out made it worse somehow I dont know, im an idiot I know. Still you ask HOW, how did you not know?! Well this happened ONE junction from my house, 100 seconds after setting off!!!
Insurance is still sorting the claim for the R8.
No I almost certainly wont be repairing the Tiger its just not viable.
No I probably wont have another bike anytime soon. No funds.
Yes I did record it, no im not putting it online. Not yet anyways
Yes I will do a vlog with a vid of the bike as is and damaged gear etc.
HUGE thanks to those that have gone out of your way to check in with me on FB by txt etc its appreciated
Ride safe guys and DO NOT USE TYRE spray
