And that's why you don't buy a gopro. I'm so glad I didn't. I already broke-out all the connections for accesories on my drift.
Good thing is, you can get decent audio investing $0 on a mic.

The only thing I like about your gopro camera is that it has stereo mic input, that means 2 audio channels. Using 2 different mics you can process some sweet mixing on your videos.
Imagine one mic recording street audio and the other correctly placed on your helmet, you say something and mute the street audio, keep silent and enjoy the sounds of the street. It's even more useful if you interact with people, you'll be able to hear what other people say outside.

the Ghost has stereo jack(i think)... the drift 1080 does not (fairly certain)... which on reading back doesnt sound really convincing...

a thought... in the past when i have connected a stereo mic/headphones plug to a mono jack .. its usually fiddly to get sound and 'not quite right' ... however a mono plug to a stereo jack is fine (up to only doing it in mono anyway) ..

so.. my reasoning is .. the mono Drift mic plugged in fine and worked... the stereo aftermarket mic ALSO plugged in fine and worked .. no fiddling backwards and forwards .. which leads me to believe it is a stereo jack!?

but even looking on the Drift website specs .. it says .. Drift Ghost-microphone jack - Yes ... which is not helpful overall..

i'll have to try peering in the little tiny hole and try get some light in there to see if i can see... i dont want to pull the thing apart unless there was an actual problem!!

anyone that HAS pulled it apart and looked?

I did pull it apart, I also video'd the entire thing and made videos about how to make my cheap mic. I just can't find the time to edit and upload.

The 1080 has a mono mic input, the plug is a 2.5mm with tip and 2 rings. The tip is mic, first ring is nothing (not connected BUT it needs to be there so the camera can detect the external mic) and the other ring is the other lead of the mic.

cheers shirou... aaaaaand.. sorry about the thread jack NEMbuck... ooops..

now... if can just find out who has pulled a GhostHD apart... the Ghost also has the more common 3.5mm jack.. which is a bit easier to find microphones for i think?

Thanks Gents! ... I hope i can get my mic all figured out here pretty soon to get better quality audio....
