2nd Bike...keep My Current On Or Trade It?

Morning everyone,

So I have been afforded the opportunity to potentially purchase a second bike. I currently ride a 13 ZX6R which is a blast, but excruciatingly uncomfortable for longer rides. I was thinking of getting a naked sport, like a Triumph street triple R.

Now here's the question, should I keep my ZX6R or trade it in? I was thinking that I might love the triple so much that I'll have no need for a supersport.

Decisions decisions!

From a purely personal point of view I'd keep it and enjoy the choice of 2 bikes. I've recently added an R1 to my garage alongside my Fireblade and my R125.

I have a video in the pipeline explaining why I have more than one bike. Basically if you can afford to keep your current bike as well as maintain and run more than one bike then go for it.

I know riders who got their licence about the same time as me but they traded their bikes in for a bigger bike, but since then they have had a couple more bikes.

Boredom I feel is the biggest blame. Becoming bored of riding the same bike day after day.

Thats actually a very good point of view, I love my zx6r, just want something for the longer hauls which I can still goon on. ZX6R for the close to home twisties, the Triumph for the adventures.

Unless you are going to miss out on some money, keep it.

For example, when I got my current bike the dealer gave me a good chunk above KBB for my old bike. So I let it go but now miss it often.

Yeah this is the reason I might keep mine....I have a feeling if I bring it in as a trade they will murder me...If I sell it will only be as a private sale.

I gotta admit, even though I just got my Shadow a few months ago, I've been researching the Hawk 250 Chinese dual sport. For just over $1,300 it's cheaper than any name brand dual sport I can buy used, and the thing's brand new! Only possible hitch is registering the damn thing legally...

Talk about opposite extremes, though - a 250 dual sport and an 1100 cruiser! But it's all about the right tool for the right job.

I am sure you checked but better be sure you have a good long term supplier of parts. . . I only say this because of a couple of folks getting burned in this area after a year or two. . .

The more immediate concern is whether I can even legally register it! Some states are refusing to and I've found no info on whether MA will or not. I'm waiting for a reply from the RMV on that...

There might be a reason they aren't registering it lol....

I'm in the same boat man. I would love a second bike, but can't afford it unless I sold my current bike. I will be in the market next year though!

Personally I would hold on to as many bikes as you can if you can afford it. Options are always nice!

Once you go naked you will never go back.

Speak for yourself! I've enjoyed the protection of a fairing or at least a nice windshield ever since I picked up my '82 Honda Silverwing after riding naked UJMs for years.

OK, I have to admit, I'm also going to enjoy the clip-on, clip-off windshield on my current Shadow. I usually ride with it on, but particularly on warm days I like having the option to get naked.

Yeah, it's not on NHTSA's list or something. Some people have had luck registering them in VT, then transferring the reg to their home state. That sounds a little sketchy, but who knows...

If you can afford to, try to keep them both and have the best of both worlds. Coming from a naked to sports, I certainly appreciate the ease of the naked.

You can make a sport into a naked (change out the bars/drop the fairings) but you can't make a naked into a sport in terms of the performance.

I think the audience has spoken, I'll stay team green and keep the ninja...But im definitely getting that Striple lol.

If you can afford it I would keep both bikes until you realize that you no longer ride one of them. I sell a bike when I no longer ride or feel the love for it anymore. There is something to say for having different style bikes for different riding conditions.

Good advice, who knows...Ill prob just keep the Ninja as my main and not get a second bike...really starting to get back into mountain biking again.
