I dont know if any of you have the same feelings as i do on this subject but i shall share.
Now i have had (for a few years) a certain hatred for cars, not vans (different league altogether). I find driving a car both depressing and irritating, ever since i did my driving lessons i knew i hated it.

I dont hate drivers, i dislike alot of them but it is mainly the cars themselves.

So may i ask you all,

Is it possible to never have a full driving licence and only ride motorbikes .. till i die, and also he happy enough not to regret that choice?. With things such as:
Shopping
wife/kids
work related matters

do any of you have any input to this , i have reasons for and against hating cars and driving them. but they should reside in the "thunderdome"

My college tutor is 59 and has not driven since he was 17. He's got by with a mixture motorbikes and pushbike. With the right bike, enough luggage space you can. And you'd have to be prepared to use public transport on a few occasions. As for a wife, she can drive you about then if you need a car :p it would pose a few problems occasionally, but is by no means impossible.

2 Wheels > 4 Wheels

A car is great for buying groceries, an for when it's really cold out, or raining like a madman. I prefer to ride my bike, but there are times I'm happy to have my truck.

Can't deny the ease of a car, it's certainly good to have another mode of transport should riding be unsafe. It's also handy to be twice as qualified as most of the cagers :P

Re: 2 Wheels > 4 Wheels

Friend of mine rides a honda dullville ;) all year round.

When he needs a car he saves so much money on petrol that he just hires one when he wants to. Uses home delivery for groceries.

That said his son drives and lives elsewhere, so it's just him and his wife.

I can't imagine living on just a motorbike if I had a typical sized family.

1. With panniers and bungee straps anything is possible!

2. Wife on the pillion seat, kids go in the panniers.

3. (This is 100% serious) My bike is my van and one day I had:
- a petrol hedge cutter
- a petrol strimmer
- a garden rake
- 5l tin of petrol
- chainsaw helmet
- tin of two stroke oil
- can of weedkiller
and other stuff on the bike to do a job for someone a few months ago.

There is video evidence, not on YouTube yet though.

I think we need to see this! :P

I had a bike license for 11 years before I got a car one, and then when I did I pass my driving test I never drove a car again, that was 10 years ago now.

well I'm going to pass my car license sometime (doing 125 atm) but I find that if the weather is too bad for a bike, you only need a spare one, I was planning, once I get a big license, to get a enduro bike for when it snows or is icy I mean no faring and nothing to break on the bike and those nice grippy tires, not to mention that it's easyer to pick out of a ditch than a car is if you slide.

I'd always recommend someone to get their car licence as well as bike just incase, but you could go your whole life without needing one.

I bought a car to get me through this winter. Worst mistake I've ever made, and I'm glad to say I think I've sold it today.

I passed my car test just over 2 years ago now and I wish I done my bike test back then instead of earlier this year. At least I would be out of this ridonkulous bhp restriction.

I Drive a Transit Van aswell as the road bike. I drive a van for 3 reasons:

1 - Im training to be a full time painter and decorator (all the gear, tools and equipment to cart about job to job)

2 - For the Motorcycle Racing, this is my transport to meetings and my accommodation ;)

3 - Insurance for the Transit is much cheaper than if i were to drive your basic 1l cars.

Driving the Van, Im probably the most "bike alert" van driver there is (and yes i do have my "think bike, think biker" window sticker displayed!) but my god, driving is grim!

I ride the bike when commuting and mainly for fun. If i have a bad day or just want to chill out and clear my head, going for a ride is the best remedy! If Im driving the van i want to get to my destination by taking the quickest possible route. However when im on the bike that destination can "wait" so to speak and i'll take a detour/scenic route so i can stay on the bike for that bit longer.

so in a nutshell : 2 Wheels > 4 Wheels!!!!
