Hids Broke My Headlights And Odometer Help!

Hi I installed HID headlights 55w and after I installed them only one of them turned on, then I switched the other headlight around and then they both turned on. Then after that the HID headlights would not turn on anymore and the backlight to my instrument panel is no longer working.

So basically I have no headlights and no instrument panel backlight.
What do I do??

You may have blown a fuse. However, most HIDs are 35W.

When HIDs strike they pull quite high current, and the beefier the HID, the more it needs, so you may have popped a fuse, hopefully not damaged any wiring.

May be a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it. When you installed the HID bulbs, you did install a ballast as well right? Because if you didn't, that is probably your problem.

An HID won't work without a ballast, plus the connector is on the ballast not the lamp.

An HID doesn't have a filament, it's two electrodes that a steady arc is formed between. If you could connect it to your standard wiring, it would be as if you had a blown bulb with no continuous circuit.

Hence why I asked him the question. There are fake HID kits out there that do not have ballasts. I was just trying to see what his setup was.

Ya there are bulbs out there that say they are "HID" but come with no ballasts and are a filament bulb. They are cheap quality, and if he installed something like that then that may be his problem.

Sorry I meant 35watt, the hids are 35 watt and have ballasts, it turned out to be a blown fuse but I have been told I should up my fuse from a 15 amp to a 20 amp but I am hesitant to do that... I am scared to plug the hids in again incase it blows another fuse.

Try it with another 15A, but check the wiring and the HID kit for damage first.

I'm surprise that you have a 15A in there, the headlight setups usually draw some decent power and everybike I've owned except for dirt bikes have had 20A headlight fuses. Like lurch said put a 15A in there with stock bulbs to make sure you didn't burn out anything (I don't think you would have) then put a 20A in there with the HID's and see.
