Blood Bikers

BlackMamba

WINNER!
Are any of you chaps blood bikers.

If so where about in the world are you and do you record your trips?

I am hopefully going to become one in England in the next 6 months as you need to be 25 here to join.

I'm a Blood Biker up in Yorkshire :D

I've done a "Views from a Blood Bike" vlog which is on my channel (Can't post a direct link in this section of the board, but my channel is in my signature below) which is more of an introduction to what Blood Bikes are all about.

I do tend to record my trips, but will only post a video if anything interesting / amusing happens

Wow thanks for the speedy reply. Im based in derby and turn 25 this month. Im at work at to moment so I cant watch video but I have subed and added the video to my to watch list!!!

Im meeting up with one of the chaps for a ride who happens to be part of the Derby BB on Sunday so im very much looking forward to that!

How often are you called out for emergencies and how often for events?

Some want you to have an advanced qualification, others will assess you and decide from there. If I ever finish my advanced I'll hopefully be joining the same lot as T'Biker.

Thanks for linking direct to the video Lurch :)

In my group, the week is split into 2 shifts: 24hrs Sunday then Mon, Tues and Weds nights (7pm to 7am), with the other shift being: Thurs and Fri nights, then 24 hours on Sat.

I tend to do the Thurs Fri Sat shift as that fits in best with my day-job, and with the number of riders we have, it works out at about 1 shift every 6 weeks or so.

On a weekday night, we get maybe a couple of jobs throughout, but on a Saturday I can be doing from 4 or 5 up to a dozen or so runs. Each one from leaving home to getting back home again usually lasts around an hour or so. I think my personal record for a Saturday was 16 calls between 9am and 11pm

Most of the jobs I get are "Urgent", i.e do them asap, with a few "Non-Urgent" i.e. do them before the end of your shift ones, thrown in.

Full "Emergency" ones (Where we might get authorised to use light and noise) are very few and far between to be honest. I've not actually had one myself in almost 12 months of doing it, although I know others have.

Of course, different groups may vary on how busy they are, but that's what I've experienced in West Yorkshire (Although I do know that our South Yorkshire team are quite a bit busier than us at the moment!)

For events, I try to go to as may as possible. Often these are the fundraising ones (Can rattling) and I'm firmly of the opinion that if they let me ride their bikes, I should go on fundraising activities for them! ;)

We occasionally get asked to marshal events (Local half-marathons and the likes) due to the visibility of the marked bikes, which can also be a good day out

12 months on and I'm still enjoying it :D

Im going in for the ERS and then id like to become a trainer!
Regular learners instructor? I'd like to do it, but there's no money in it and a bit seasonal. And out of your pittance, you instruct from your bike. You'd ideally need a thriving eBay business selling Chinese tut :)

its about the love!!! id would love to train police one day quit my day job and just be a police biker trainer blood biker and vloger!!

No idea how you get that far, although to be a class 1 instructor you need to be more than shit hot!

Probably need to be a police ossifer too.
