My Bike's Better Than Yours

This attitude doesn't seem so prevalent in countries where two wheels is much more accepted and everyone has a bike or scooter. Eg, Spain, France, Italy etc. Even grannies get around on their Sym or Kymco.

Do many bikers in UK perceive themselves as more elite, does it go back to Mods v Rockers, or is it everywhere and I just don't understand the lingo, or something else?

Well, what's "better" though?

A tourer is "better" than a superbike for distance, 2up with luggage. Want to try and get lap record at the TT? Superbike is going to be capable of doing the job better.

You buy a bike that suits your needs and/or suits your pocket, that then is the best bike for you and your circumstances.

Take mine. 55hp, decent torque, get you crazy distances with luggage in comfort, but it's slated as a shit bike, and called the Dullsville. Why? Because it's not hot on acceleration compared to other 600s, but it wasn't built or designed for that. Still a shit bike to some though. I'm not going to be racing it, and on a trip to London, I'd achieve the same time on an HP4, but I'd have needed to have stopped twice for fuel and paid 75-100% more for fuel. So in this case, the HP4 is a shit bike. But it's not, it's a superb bike and a testament to engineering.

I was chatting to a scooter rider while washing my bike today (in my crappy French) about how he loves his scooter and my bike. They don't seem to have bike envy in Switzerland, just an appreciation for the scenery, curves and anything on 2 wheels.

It's not elitism when people act like that back in the UK, it's just being a massive bell end, and there are far too many of them.

The nly two wheeled riders I dislike are idiots on two wheels. Hoons and just bad riders basically. I would love a scooter and was seriously looking at a Vespa the other day ;)

When I bought my first bike, I was only supposed to get an A1 license (It's all different now!!) so I was actually thinking of getting a Suzuki Burgmann 400 and touring around France on it! I had NO worries whatsoever about it being a scooter rather than a 'bike'. As it turned out, they had me do my test on a 500cc so I got unrestricted license and opted for more HP and an extra cyclinder!

But as Lurch so eloquently put it, it's horses for courses. If it's working for you, screw the peeps who want to throw shit on your decisions!

Hatas gonna Hate. Potatas gonna Potate.

If you ever get a Super Sports you'll find that it gets even worse!

It's either everyone is faster than the next person and other bike brands are 'gay'

A bikes a bike to me. The only thing I'm not a fan of or mingle with is those on a CBT, purely because most can't ride for shite

Although some long term CBTers can ride a damn sight better and responsibly than some others on a full licence, but going by this area, there are some elitist pricks about.

I did a vlog on this a while back but I think the people that do the most hating or mouthing off are A) People that don't even ride or B) People that are very single minded and only say negative things to fit in with others.

Riding a Harley I'm well aware of how people act I just could personally care less. To me a bike is a bike and the only thing I care about is seeing the number of people who love to ride grow.

Screw you R6s, screw the Gixxers and 'blades.

THIS is where the best bike action is at!!

Given a choice for a first track day, I think I'd have a go at this over super sport! Looks a hoot!

"My bike is better than yours" or "Your bike is better than mine" only applies if you even give a sh*t about such a thing in the first place. That's my 2 cents.

Over here mostly Ducati and HD owners (not everyone obviously) has that mentality. Here's a video of one that just didn't bother to stop and assist, I would if I was in his shoes. Because if something like that happened to me, I'd be glad for some assistance. I guess he was rushing to grab his coffee at Coffee Bean.

Do you have a spare room to let?
If you want to visit you'd have a bed for a few nights :)

I'm still not sure how the rules here allow learners to ride R6's though. There's one sat outside my flat this very moment with an L plate on it and ground down footpegs.

The way I see it is that everyone has to start somewhere and learner riders are doing precisely that: learning. Many also want to feel part of the club. It's CBTers that will go on to be the next generation teaching the new generation about bikes.

People cool since only a small population of ride anything on 2 wheels...as long as you have their "type" of bike. The community is very split between cruisers and sport.

There is always an exception though. The other day a former scooter rider asked how large my bike was. I said 650...she said oh that's on the low end. That's like the smallest motor they make on a motorcycle. I didn't really care because obviously the person had no clue about motorcycles.
