Broken Before It Began.

I cannot recall seeing anything like any of those :D looks like more tinkering time tonight! haha :D

Will it be attached to the tank side of the carb side do you reckon?
 
Dunno, follow the pipe out the tank and see where it ends up, hopefully there's one of them inline!!
 
Sounds like you're up for a carb clean! :)

Hopefully your workshop manual will help you out a bit.
 
So, when i was looking around for the leak... i happened upon this...

I have no idea what it is but its definitely broke and leaking :P You can see the exhaust just below if you may be able to point me to what it is :L

Nooo, the air filter is under the tank towards the back of the bike, this is behind the radiator. I have found out is teh powervalve, apparently it looks liek teh blade has broken and inside the cyclinder. So sounds liek a top end rebuild on my hands :(

I dont know how people can tell that from a picture of oil and blackness... but im glad they can :P
 
So i have made a little progress but hit a smacking great big fat wall...

The leak was coming from the powervalve, which is the thing that was pictured that i had no idea what it was.

So i have taken the top end off to make sure it wasnt damaged by the blade. The piston and cylinder wasnt damaged by the blade, but they were burnt within a cm of their lives ad the cylinder has a huge chip in it. No seized engine but still a top end rebuild.

The blade needs taking out and cleaning up, the cap needs replacing to stop the leak.

The chip in the cylinder is worrying as there was no debris in there so it maybe in the bottom end, meaning a bottom end rebuild too.

I need to check the crank and all the bearings also.

So the cost has gone from £60 to £450 + labor if i decide to go that route with it.

Thats just for the parts for top and bottom end. I will also need a full set of new fluids (£80)

But atleast im getting my hands dirty and finding it out for myself and learning about how my bike runs and works for once instead of passing the problem to a garage and hoping im not getting ripped off.

I will update with pictures when i get them uploaded :)
 
When you drain the sump oil, do it through a pair of tights to capture any particles so you can inspect them.

I hope you'll be keeping this bike with all the effort going in! :)

Oh, and do keep all receipts and bills, it's service history. If you can show the engine was rebuilt and it has been running well for two years or whatever it may help with resale as you have a) proof of parts changed and b) proof of use since rebuilding it.

Im taking pictures along the way so i have the proof and will be keeping all receipts from it.

Hell yeah im keeping it!! not going to put all this work into it and the flog it :P Blood, sweat and semen have gone into this thing! probably why it broke :D

Thats a good shout with the tight.. im sure the other half has plenty :P
