so i not long pass my test and now starting to ride bike. my question is whats the deal with parking my bike in car parks so i have to pay and display because anyone can just take my sticker and i know there MC spots but what if there not. any handy sneaky tips about parking and or what bikes can do that cars cant do kinda thing

I ask myself the same question all the time. So far I haven't needed to park in public places, but I know I will have to in a few weeks to I need to know this stuff.

Most car parks allow free parking for bikes, you just ride around the barrier. But the ones where you take a ticket but don't display and pay on leaving may ask require you to pay.

Read the boards in the car park most say on them if it is free or not for bikes.

yeah i look at them but most dont say anything about bikes. but hanks anyway
 
For town parking, I'd say that if you park in a car space, where a car would normally pay, then you should pay. It may be worth looking up motorcycle parking in your town, either on the council website or your local MAG may have info on parking spaces for bikes, Westminster charge £1 per day for bike parking anywhere in the borough if you're down there at all. Bigger car parks tend to have an attendant, although pay on exit car parks where you take the ticket away wouldn't be a problem as you don't need to display as T71 said.

I believe most Q-Parks are free for bikes, but you could always Google the car park, see if it has a website, that might give info. I did once ask a traffic warden how to deal with pay and display for a bike. He said to pay, keep the ticket and if you get a parking ticket then you can get it written off as you have the ticket showing what time you had paid until. Whether I'd want to do that is another discussion though :)

Just remember, privately owned parking is a different thing to council run parking. They can send non-payment notices to the registered keeper, but they can't actually fine anyone unless they can positively identify who was riding the motorcycle at the time of the non-payment. Applies to cars as well, they can only bring action against a person, not the keeper, whereas Government organisations can bring it against the keeper unless the keeper forwards the details on.
 
It's different everywhere and council sites often don't provide any information. Plus council car park notices often never mention bikes. I did a couple of vlogs about this in my home town a year ago or so, one of which was a good conversation with a parking warden.

Best thing to do is chat to a local warden or ring your council. Then you know the local rules for sure.

Whatever though, never park in cycle spaces or in pedestrian only areas or behind double yellows. You will be caught.
 
I judge every car park as I get there most are free ...the only ones I pay for are in Central London where you can pay by text when you set up an account ..probably of no use lol
 
I don't think I have ever paid at a car park to be honest, I don't tend to use them really but when I do I usually just find a corner that's to tight for cars and just squeeze in there.
 
the problem with calling the council for parking information is that generally nobody has a clue where bikes are concerned and with traffic wardens some will ticket bikes and others wont so its just luck of the draw, best bet is to find an area with free on street parking and squeeze between a couple of cars or locate a car park that says free bike parking on the sign
 
When I did my Bike training my instructor took and showed me all the motorcycle spots around the Newcastle city center which was very handy to know, he also stated that if you dont know the city your in; you can go to the local information center and they should have the info for you. Asking them on the rules of bike parking for the area should help. Usually you have motorcycle parking bays in any major car park but sometimes they are stupidly out of CCTV range...

Someone once told me that if you cover your bike, it would not be legal for someone to touch your bike to find your reg plate. Something about tampering with property. (is this bull?)
 
It's a hard one to say, or indeed prove as cameras may have tracked you in and got your reg that way. The Police would be able to lift the cover, definitely. It wouldn't be unreasonable for a car park owner to verify what's under a cover either in reality, and long as he's not tampered with anything to do so.

Remember private parkingg means the owner can only try to recover fines from the rider/driver, and the burden of proof is on them, whereas government/council owned parking they send the fine to the keeper, and it's down to the keeper to inform them ofbthe rider/driver, but ultimately the buck stops at the keeper if your mate won't cop for the fine, much the same as speeding.
