Well Controlled Or Could It Have Been Avoided?

The van driver probably didn't pay enough attention to the traffic in front of him.

Nevertheless the motorcycle rider should have added more distance to the van. He couldn't see the traffic in front of the van and so he has to make sure to have enough space to come to a safe stop when the car in front of him has to do an emergency breaking.

The rider should definitely have sat back - what if the van driver ran into the rear of the car and no lights went on?

The rider would have slammed into the rear of the van and would be deemed to have negligently failed to keep a safe stopping distance.

Although it was well controlled, in my opinion it could have been avoided. In my CBT I was taught to stay as far back from the vehicle in front of me to the point that I can see what's going on in the traffic ahead.

Not well controlled, just lucky. The guy was clearly not paying attention but luckily he caught it in time. Good save Bro.

Yeah... I remember something similar... I do not mean to thread-hack, but if you wish you can watch what I had to deal with a couple of vlogs back... Another ding dong not paying attention to what traffic is doing. I had some forewarning, and the time to check I was clear. But, the car behind had to swerve out of the way. I always look trough cars, and hate sitting behind vans and trucks I can't do that with. If I am behind one of those I tend to keep my distance more. In the bikers case? Dumb luck... If his position was any different he would have been flying trough the air.

Both at fault, van obviously didnt pay attention as the bike may have been lacking attention too but being close to a big object infront tends to block out the view ahead which then gives you less chance to forward think and pre plan.
