Youtube And Privacy

OK it is official from YouTube now, ANY video showing someones face or hearing someones voice within it is in violation of the YouTube rules. And the video can be taken down.

Sadly looks like YouTube is going way too main stream now. Also public recording even if people have given consent is against the rules. Way to go YouTube!

I guess it depends of the country's laws.
For example in France, You can record a video with a group of people.
But if you record just one person, you must blur his face.
And for children, even in a group, you must blur them all.

Nothing to do with country, its YouTubes policy.

Any video that can be used to identify an individual is deemed an invasion of privacy, regardless of laws in the country of origin.

In the UK and most US states any picture / video shot in a public space is not able to be censored as the people / person involved can not expect unlimited privacy.

We would have no imagery in our papers or on TV otherwise ;)

You must be mistaken. 99.9% of youtube has peoples faces in it. Every music clip on Vevo, every television show, every skit show.... everything that is not a computer game.

And even the computer game videos often have the voices of the players on them, so would fall foul of the other part......

Makes you wonder if people will quite Youtube or not, although it's such a massive platform, but if it's too restrictive then people may feel there's no choice. Wonder if there's other platforms that offer monetisation to those who rely on it.

I suppose Hangouts will be OK as you choose to turn on your webcam.

Good job it's not a photo site as people in photos is a pretty common thing :)

If I get videos shut down because of this then I'll try Vimeo or something like that, if that doesn't take off then there may be no point vlogging as it would be impossible to blur every identifiable thing whilst out.

Nope, there is a catch to it. IF and thats a big IF the person in the video says to youtube, I don't like it take it down. They will. It is in their rules now.

Thankfully not common knowledge but yes if you say video someone cutting you up or worse hitting you. Make sure you clown the face and disguise their voice or they can now ask for it to be taken down. YouTube just doesn't want to get into the lawyer game and I can't blame them. So Im working on some good faces for my future videos and sound effects ;)

I think you need to read the rest of the post guys, Thats perfectly legal, but youtube have said its agaisnt there rules so regardless of legality they can just tell you to take it down.

Sadly terms and conditions are there on top of the law, and you need to comply woth both. If you won't agree to the T&Cs you basically have to remove your account, or breach the rules and have it removed for you.

Wow. This is shocking, how is a person suppose to prove to youtube its them in a video before its taken down? If youtube takes their word then trolls can shut down anyones channel.

Good point. Wonder if YT need any proof? Might have to see if there's any info on making such a challenge.

It's funny that any person can take down a YouTube video or account via YouTube but Google won't take anything down on their search engine about a person in the U.S. if requested (EU has that "forget me" law or whatever it is called which is nice :p ). It's all in Google's own self-interest. B*stards >:( ~.....

It is a shame but not a surprise.
