Hiring A Bike In Usa

Friend of mine who now lives in Miami just invited me over some time soon, suggesting I hire a bike and join him (he on his new Harley) for a few days riding down to the Keys.

Problem is bike cost - $100+ per day, then add on other costs, and it totals some $1100+ for 6 days.

Is there a cheaper way of hiring a bike in USA, or is this usual? Seems rather excessive in comparison to hiring a car (from £13 per day!)

I don't think he really knows anyone else there with any bikes. He just got his recently having moved to USA and got himself and the family settled and the job going well, and it looks like he now wants some buddies to go for a spin with

Unfortunately renting bikes is a small market, and it's usually only done by tourists or once-in-a-lifetime riders, so it's always going to be expensive compared with car rentals. Maybe he can have a word with the dealer he just bought his HD from, and sort out a cheaper rate for an extended test ride.
