Blurring Speedo?

OH and another good one in Germany is NO HGV's on a Sunday. Absolutely blanket, all out, no exceptions, total ban.

That's austria isn't it? I've had trucks moving on Sundays in Germany before quite often. Austria you need a permit to move it through a city, forgotten what you need to do on the out of town roads.

Nah, Germany too. But there are a few exceptions. Fresh Meat/fish and Milk can be transported. as well as important stuff from a port/rail yard direct to closest possible consignee etc...

And it's not all day, only til 10pm. But in any case, it creates a noticeable reduction in lorry traffic on a sunday. Country roads seem practically deserted.

Bringing the topic back on track... :-)

I personally don't blur out my dash. And I used to try and blur out my license plate, but now I just try not to have it in the shot. It's just too much of a hassle during editing.

Yes, there are videos where I'm clearly above the speed limit, but I also believe that a big factor in getting the authorities attention is your attitude and how you portray your riding. The police have bigger fish to fry than little old me.

Clearly, there are some stupid people who are just asking for trouble though. Not too long ago, a local idiot posted this video of himself pulling this stupid and dangerous stunt on the public roads, and was quickly brought to justice!

Wow! I imagine he's probably not with us anymore!

I take the same view as you. I'm never going to smash the speed limit to pieces and I never set out to intentionally or blatantly flout the law. So it's more hassle than it's worth.

Just like you say, if your attitude and your riding stinks then blurring out your speedo is probably going to make Johnny Law even more likely to pay you a visit as you KNEW that you were doing something bad enough to hide!

My speedo is also always so small that at Youtube resolutions it would be hard to really glean any useful info from it! Plus I never keep the original footage once I've rendered the videos. I'd like to, but just don't have enough HDD's!!

Mine is massive and obvious, and my bike has flashing blue lights that indicate when I'm misbehaving.

I don't bother to blur out the speedo, as others mentioned cops have better things to do than go through YouTube looking at my videos, unless there was some really dangerous riding and stunting (which others share and it becomes viral) then probably it would get the cops attention (because it became viral).

In fact during my last weekend ride video there was an actual speed trap operation going on and I was totally oblivious to it, doing almost double the speed the limit (90km/h). Not sure if I was captured (kind of hard to capture a bike license plate), oh well if I do just have to settle the fine I guess.

I don't plan on blurring mine for the same reasons mentioned above. I doubt that my channel will ever be large enough to catch any kind of attention.

You're lucky, if we are caught doing those kind of speeds we get banned.

I've blurred the speedo in some of my videos but it's a pain in the arse. By far the better option is keeping it out of shot. I generally cut any sequence of footage which has silly speed on it, I can't be heard speaking over the wind/engine/exhaust noise anyway.

I did it in one of my videos, but I got rid of the speed limit signs, highway signs and exit signs. I saw it on thatracingchannel and the like and I figured I'd give it a go. It was a horrible experience, it became such a chore. But I got it done. The footage was filmed in mexico... honest... Edited in Vegas 10 Pro!

you should try taking a page out of the top gear book. they drove supercars in america and were able to get them up to such amazing speeds at 55mph.

Eurgh, I know your pain trying to blur so much.

Unless you act like a total idiot I doubt the authorities are ever going to do anything. None of my videos actually feature speedo's. That will probably change when I get a motorcycle, but I doubt I will start blurring the speedo. Jake the garden snake wheelies in just about every video. He doesn't get a visit from the cops either.

It was a horrible experience AND a waste of time. I live on the other side of the world and in about 20 minutes I can see that the mustang passes you at the exit sign on US-67 (the exit onto route 20) at 6 seconds. At 44 seconds the blurred sign says Cockrell Hill Rd. You are under the Sth Cockrell Hill Rd bridge at 54 sec. Thats 2390m in 48 seconds.... 179km/h (111mph) average. Google maps.
I think in America its not as bad as here, but here a police just has to do what I did above and you are guilty unless you can PROVE in court otherwise.

Nice job! But, there is no footage of the driver so per definition it's non-prosecutable footage as there is no proof on who was operating the vehicle. That's why bikers get away Scott free if they successfully outrun police. No footage or visual of the driver. There is also the question of when the alleged offense took place. Nope, there is no case here.
