Things never to say to a rider...

Motorbikes are very divisive. They sort the populous into 3 silos: like, indifferent, hate. Those that hate generally hate both the bike and the rider. Kids trend towards the like side. Ignorant people gravitate towards hate.

"I knew this guy.....who got in an accident...and like died and stuff. How do you ride those things they are sooooo dangerous."

Oh, the number 4 reason, sounds like some people in my family that say that exact same thing along with the number 1 reason, along with, "I could never ride those things, they are so unsafe. Be Careful." Here is another one "I just do not have the time to devote to riding anymore. I have kids and other activities that keep me busy. " LOL (Believe it or not, the last saying is what someone in my family told me), and yet both of his sons go to college, are away from home, and he still gives me the same excuse each time, and he used to ride dirt bikes. The other ones think that riding a street bike seems to be more dangerous than riding dirt bikes? LOL

A wife and kids certainly do change a person's life, renegade ;) ... free time gets cut into a fraction of what it used to be BW and BC :( (before wife and before children :p )~.....

"I don't mind you riding a motorcycle but I sure do wish you would be riding a different one... that one is the most dangerous one out there to ride. I sure wish you would sell the thing already..."

...so says my mother and to a degree my father ~_~ .....

That is true. However, there is no more kids, since they are off to college, yet, I think some are "helicopter parents". LOL. :) Take for instance, my oldest brother, he has to be at every game that my nephew plays. So he really puts on the miles going back and forth to either home games in Ottawa, Kansas, or all throughout the state of kansas, in each school that Ottawa plays, and yet, he has no time to ride a motorcycle? LOL :) Wow, that sounds like an overprotective mother and to some extent the father, but I think the mother maybe trying to influence the father into saying that.

Sounds awfully familiar to me when I first started riding by some people in my family. LOL :)

Most dangerous? There is always something more dangerous.

"You're going to die on that thing." That is the worst thing I've been told by a complete stranger when she saw me carrying my helmet. She was fairly old granny though, I should have said "you first".

I agree. I find it funny when people say that, and yet one of the most dangerous "somethings" places to be is on a flight deck on an aircraft carrier during flight operations, and I have been there, so riding a motorcycle is by far less dangerous than that in my opinion. LOL :)

I'd say "Of course I will, at least I'll die doing what I like".
I am used to joke that way with my family, I always say if I die, it will be on a motorcycle accident.
