Hey guys I have a little question about using music I want to do kinda a video trailer for my channel and I want to put a muse song and I'm wondering if that is alright as long as I put credit in the description or will that be tagged as copyright violation? I have a great idea with a song that will match up perfectly otherwise its back to square one.

Currently I don't have any videos monetized nor do I plan to anywhere in the near future so I'm hoping that since nothing is monetized it would be alright if I did I'm just not sure and would rather be safe than sorry.

You'll normally be fine but they could end up putting ads on your video.

You can't advertise yourself through that video, otherwise you're profiting through their music

Allthough Google/YT can be very confusing+contradictive. Ive been kinda ok using the 'Personal use' music from Jamendo.
When ive used the 'Commercial use' or similar, then ive had an issue with 'Matched content' msg's from YT.

ALLWAYS credit the 'creator/artist', ive had emails from a band in Germany, thanking me for using their music. Offering more, etc.
(Blew me away, i was stoked to help promote em)

Try Google the music name/artist for 'Un-Copyrighted' music??
Good luck, YT can be quite 'stupid'!?! :(

If you use commercial music you risk having problems with your channel, even if you're not making money with your videos. Some producers are more jealous with their content than others so if they decide to have your channel taken down, they'll contact YT and YT will comply.
There's no fair use in reusing a big amount of commercial content on your videos, even if you credit the authors.

I see that kinda sucks... Looks like its almost not worth the trouble doing a big name band I guess I'll have to search around and try and find a smaller band that wouldn't mind giving me permission to do it or try a different route. Thanks for all the help guys.

Search for Toucan Music :) All free :)

With bigger music, I just don't bother as I don't want their shitty adverts on my videos

Some commercial lyrics and vocals can be hard to replace with something that sounds exactly the same or has the same effect on people (knowing the lyrics and stuff) but in communities like SoundCloud you can find TONS of music, very professional and good quality stuff. Nowadays is easier than ever for a garage band to sound like it was produced by a big label studio.
Take your time browsing the music, find what you like and don't be shy to ask the authors if you can use their music in your work. Some bands and artists are more than happy to give permission as long as you're clear with what you want to do and under what conditions.
I asked 3 authors about using their music and all except for one were pretty cool with it, allowing me as long as I didn't make money on the content. One of the authors were a local band I don't actually care about that much. They didn't reply and when I uploaded the content it was flagged.

I had this video set done with some classics from the 50s...It uploaded fine but then a copyright violation popped up and it asks you to either accept that it is a violation or dispute. I didnt want to accept since that could be used against me from a legal perspective. I deleted the video and created a new one with the shitty free music. Completely lost its effectiveness.

try not using music with out having copy rights, they often block it in some countries and mobile phones :/
Youtube has this new place/feature called "Creators Tool" you can access it by going to video manager and it should be on the list on the left side :) there's a lot of good music(for free) there and you don't have to worry about video being block or band :)

That is very true sometimes a song is very unique I had a great idea in my head for what I wanted and now everything I have that goes through the same process isn't really the same. I'll check out sounds cloud though I haven't registered but it defiantly seems like its a little bit more upscale and I would think it would have more polished stuff.

Yeah I wanna avoid the same situation if possible I'd rather not be sued for what little I do have and end up with a video I'm not happy with.

Can you download this music and use it on the video editing program that you choose or does it go though youtubes video editor. Also if it does go through it's own video editor is it any good or difficult to use?

If you use the Creative Commons filters on Soundcloud, some artists allow their music to be used commercial on videos if credit is given.
