I thought I would share this with everyone here as fodder for discussion. What are your thoughts and feelings about seeing a bike neglected?

I got this from someone I know

I have been trying to figure out how I feel about it, for the past two days now. And I can't say I feel strongly one way or the other. After all, I don't know the reasons behind it. The bike has a potential to become a barn find in some decades :p

I would say lets get that pig back on the road as soon as possible. And I would offer to store it in my garage so that it would get run a few miles every month there wasn't salt on the roads.

Every so often, I like to browse the pre-owned inventory at my local dealer. I'm not interested in buying, I just like seeing the new bikes that come and go.

Sadly, seeing a bike not being used is not at all surprising. Out of curiosity, I just checked my local's website. They have two 2015 Yamaha FJ 09 models for sale. One has 3,850 Miles and the other has 1,313 Miles. It blows my mind that someone would own a bike for 7+ years and put less than 4,000 miles on it.

So seeing this Harkey not run for 4 years is sad but it isn't shocking.

It happens, and people have many reasons for leaving a bike standing. Be it family commitments, kids rocking up, illnesses of themselves or others they need to care for. Injuries after an accident can put someone off for a while, even just mentally after the physical injuries have healed. Sometimes, it's just minor breakdowns that they never get around to fixing, or financial difficulties prevent them from fixing, priorities etc.

Of course, when buying second-hand, a low mileage bike that's been sat for a long time can easily turn out to be more hassle than a higher mileage bike that's been ridden and maintained regularly...

I do this with Harley dealers. I'll browse the showroom floors like they are a bike show and just gawk at the pretty bikes.
