Voice or no voice?

Hey everybody, just wondering if you all speak on your Motovlogs.
I am in the process of starting up and looking to find my way with things and wondering if I should speak during vids (no one usually wants to hear what I say) or just let the videos and scenery speak for itself.
So who wants to hear a strong Scottish accent or just want to see the Scottish scenery ?

Personally, I don't watch vids with no voice, if I want to just watch a motorbike go around some corners I can do that on my own bike!
I like to have a reason to watch a channel over others, so for me a chatty vid over just bike noise and def over a music video as one person's choice of music is seldom the same as another person's.... although if you get a song folk like then it can be beneficial.

That is just my opinion, I know others may say the opposite

It really depends.
Just frontfacing helmet camera, then yeah, a voice would be nice.
Any real "vlog" has a voice ofcourse.

A video that can do well without voice, but with music or just engine sounds is multi-angled.
Either some fun stuff offroad, or a heavily edited video like Querly does so well.

I have used the music option on a couple where I'd had audio issues with my in helmet mic, it does give you a fallback option if needed

I don't mind a mix, but without some kind of commentary or something to break up the riding/music , it can get boring. I'm new like you are, and just trying to figure out what my vlog will be, I have a ton of travel footage from the last 10 years, but no voice over. I'm trying to break those up into chunks with enough other stuff to make it interesting. My new vlogs I am talking, but I do find myself without much to say some times. I figure a little riding mixed in with my talking is OK, as long as it is keeps peoples interest. I'll find out what works as I start getting watches. It will be interesting to see which does better.

I'm not a fan of voiceless vlogs really. Part of this whole vlog idea is to convey viewpoints, information and to an extent create a dialogue/connect with an audience. I also tend to enjoy vlogs that aren't just on the bike a bit more. Making stops, giving us observations of their surroundings, showing us cool places, saving sheeps from predatory hedges, working on bikes - all of this creates a more immersive video and draws me in more.

For the short period of time my post it has been up it would appear that most enjoy the commentary side of things with the vlogs.
Has given me some ideas which once the weather clears up I’ll get out and try them out and see how they are received

I agree with @HippoDrone - I only really watch vids with voice. That said, some videos are really good without

I like a good mix of voice and music in both the videos I do and the videos I watch.

I've done all talking motovlogs so far but I do have music segments in them sometimes when I don't have anything to say.

However, I do watch a few bike channels who don't talk at all in their motovlogs. Schaaf comes to mind, and he's been very successful on YT without talking. Robert Merz is another one who has more subs and views than most of us do! So it can work, but most YT bike channels have voice.

I think if your doing just music audio for your videos and want to make a big go of YouTube you have to be willing to pay for a music provision website.

Most of the copyright free stuff on YouTube has been so over used it almost detracts from the quality of some vids.

Yeah I know what you mean.
I’m still trying to figure out what I am wanting this venture is going to be.
Need the weather to clear up a bit to get out on the bike and start recording and trying things out

That is the thing. I am just starting out, and after just 4-5 vlogs under my belt, it is getting easier to figure out what to say and the dialog is coming easier. I think this is a matter of have an idea of what you want to do, and then as you do it you will figure a lot out.

I agree with everyone on this thread. Sadly motovloggers have a bad reputation but I see past that cause we're vloggers just like anyone else on YouTube.

Just stick to your plan on Youtube and find out what you like doing most. People will always have an opinion on anything. Personally, I like watching motovlogs with voice and just like @HippoDrone said, I can ride my own bike instead of watching voiceless motovlogs.

I do admit though, I like watching those 4k videos with just pure exhaust sounds.

Haha need to find my plan then get out and put it into practice then and hopefully get to meet up with few from here once everything calms down

I don't do voiceovers. Starting out, I thought it was more of a challenge to record good audio with a half helmet, so I went that route. Little did I know it would take literally dozens and hours of testing to get consistently good audio that way - oops!

It may not be cheating, but it didn't mesh with what I wanted to do, so I don't do it. I'll admit to having mix & matched footage and audio from different clips to get a better result, however.

Unless you are Schaaf - I wouldn't watch you without voice. And to be another Schaaf you need to have perfect quality footage and sound and bloody huge selection of bikes and... some serious riding skills. And even in Schaaf case I'm watching just 5% of his videos - just a bikes I find interesting, skipping all the rest.
