Hi all! So I am still in the process of learning, and have my mod 1 next week, to be followed by mod 2 as soon as they can book them after that (assuming all goes well next week!).

Anyway, in advance, I had been looking at some bikes, and for some time had my heart set on a cbr600f.
But...I then, by accident, stumbled on a gsx650f that was for sale for a very good price! I do genuinely think this will be a decent investment for at least a few years as my main intention is commuting, with some for-fun rides too. It's super comfy too (and I'll do a review on it when I've passed my test for what it's worth lol).

It had 8.5k miles and looked in really good condition..so I got in touch with the guy who was based at an RAF base, and agreed to come see it hoping to buy..

It was perfect (for me) - all in great condition, and a few extras thrown in too (trickle charger, paddock stand, and extra spark plugs). So I took it!

I had never been on a big bike before, and although I knew it was a heavy bike (215kg dry), I was still surprised at just how heavy that is... I had a little go and it felt great, such good balance and felt planted to the ground. Then I got it back in my garden to put it away, tried to turn it and it leaned a little further than ideal, and that was it..I couldn't stop it

Luckily it only ended in a small fairing crack, some small scratches and the end of my brake lever snapping..but I genuinely felt sick when I knew there was nothing I could do... absolutely gutted!

Anyway, here's a picture :)

Great first bike choice!

We all drop our bikes from time to time, it just happens. Even those of us who have been riding for years!

Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your tests!

Very nice looking bike. When I was looking at new bikes I think I looked at a GS500F for a time. Ended up with my Fazer in haste, but loved it all the same.

I remember it was at a Harley dealer as part exchange. I had no bike at this point and hadn't ridden a large cc bike for about 10 months. When I drove it out of the car park, I was so scared i'd drop it in front all these Harley riders. Lol I got out ok and on to the main road. My noob reaction was to hammer the throttle, as this is what I had become accustomed to while riding my clapped out 125. That front wheel lifted very high! (was probably an inch but I very much soiled myself lol)

In terms of dropping it. Well! I once got home after a very uneventful ride, and rode right on to my drive. I fiddled about about with gloves etc and went to get off. To this day I don't know how it happened, but the side stand wasn't fully deployed, and the drive was a slight decline so the bike rolled forward, off the stand and fell on top of me. It was on top of me, and I was wedged up in a bush. My Wife (girlfriend at the time) was in the kitchen and didn't hear me shouting or see me waving my hands (she was 8 feet away). 5 minutes later I emerged through the bush in to my neighbours front garden...Hilarious!

I didn't put my kickstand down correctly once on my Sportster and now I only have half a license place mount. Turns out there was double the amount of plastic on it necessary to keep it attached to the motorcycle.

And my wife had her first run in with a descending gravel road that was poorly graded. Sportster ended up on its side and she was just dusty luckily. I taught her how to lift a bike from its side properly when she started on our Suzuki Savage so she got it up and on the kickstand. Couple of more scuffs on the derby cover and some dirt packed in a few places but road her home with no problems from New Hampshire to Connecticut after our camping trip this past weekend.

Nice looking bike!

I dropped my 2018 Goldwing the first week I had it, trying to figure out how to get it up on the center stand! Luckily there wasn't any damage as the Wing has really good drop protection, but man did I feel goofy.

We’ve all been there. I dropped my Triumph Trophy when I put my foot down on a rock and rolled my ankle...down she went. It’s all good. Nice bike!
