Sub special ideas?

Gemini

Los Angeles R1 Motovlogger
im coming up on 100 subs which was my only goal when i started vlogging, any ideas on what would be a cool video to post to celebrate? ALL ideas welcome! Love you all here in the motovlog community!

Congrats. I am just getting started and will be shooting my second video starting tomorrow. 100 subs is my first target as well.
100 subs is really my only goal in terms of subs. I just want the URL, other than that I created my channel to meet other riders and share experiences, nothing else. Good luck on your journey and remember you only get as much as you put into it

My goal is to try and get 100 subs a year. I’ve been pretty consistent with that so far, though I know I can do more to promote myself. Getting views and comments is still more exciting because it’s more direct feedback.

Thats a cool goal, simple and achievable and of course, it gets easier as you grown. I think the more subscribers you have, the easier it is to gain more. A bit like Money, if you dont have it, its hard to get. But if you have it, its "easier" to get more.

Yeah its the snowball effect. At 86 subs I hit a wall for awhile then gained like 20 overnight.. its weird how it all works

Indeed! Subs are subs. I suspect you can drive yourself insane with watching the numbers going up and down and second guessing yourself all the time. The analytics are there, so its good to keep and eye out but of course, we shouldn't obsess.

I normally only pick up 10 or so new subs per video, and loose a couple (as you do) so probably around 8 to 10 per video. I suspect at some point +/- numbers will increase per video. I'd love to know what most peoples averages are per video though. How many new subs vs. loosing subs per video do most get? Of course, if posting a particular video looses you a LOT of subs thats something to analyse what made people unsub.

How many new subs do most people gain per video and whats the ratio to loosing subs? The ratio is rather interesting, so please share if people dont mind! Just averages would be cool.

I didn't do anything special when I hit 100. I'm not sure at 100, I was "established" enough with a "dedicated" base of people. I am trying to think of how to explain what I mean... Established channels have people that are some what "fans". They are the people I would want to thank if I ever had them. At 100, I feel for me, those people are just people who come and go with no real dedication to my channel, most might have seen only one of my videos, maybe some hadnt even watched any. Very few had watched a lot, or enough to recognize me. Its like flicking through TV channels and watching something thats on, vs. deliberately watching a TV program you want to see. I want to thank people that are deliberately watching my content continuously, If I ever get those people.

Dont get me wrong, I still totally appreciate them! I just think If I did a thank you video, its not something they would want, because they would just be thinking "who are you?" I hadn't got enough content for them to have watched, and know who I am when they watched a thank you video.

For me, 500 is the first milestone and I might consider something special. I will definitely do something special to thank people at 1000, then 5k and 10k If I ever hit those numbers. After that, who knows! I hadn't thought about it as I am so far off! I know other people do these giveaways, and it makes you think about the financial and analytics a little to be worth doing something like an expensive giveaway. I might briefly daydream about that level, but I get anxious and think about the pressure of being that big and I come crashing down to reality that I dont have to worry about any of that for a long time, if ever!

Yeah i hear what you are saying. I'm thankful because I have a group of about 5 to 10 cobsitent watchers / commenters, most of which are friends, but it doesn't matter to me, if they like the videos they will watch them :)

I always find the dichotomy between views and subs to be strange. I've seen channels that have under 100 subs but a few of their videos have 1-2 K views. While others have 1-2 K subs but the views on there videos are under 100. One would expect a stronger correlation between subs numbers and views, but it's really about the kind of videos being offered that hit a deep core of viewer, but those videos doesn't a;ways translated into direct subs.

Yeah I've noticed that too. Some videos also go big but don't generate subs. For example my R3 review video is nearing 1k views but didn't net me many subs, because my other videos are motovlogs, not review videos. And vice versa.

I know a channel about a couple that sail, started their channel just so their friends and family could keep up to date with their adventures and what they are up to. The whole channel was initially only meant to be for friends but then it exploded.

Your lucky you have that core group so soon! My friends only watch on occasion and rarely comment. But thats fine. I'm hoping to get to the point where I'm making entertaining videos that people want to watch and look forward to my next release. That's why I work hard on my B-roll. I get to be a dork, show a side of myself that only my friends normally see. At some point, some subs will come along that appreciate my humour and those will be my audience.

Yeah and for me I just wanted to connect with new people that ride, I ride alone because nobody I know rides and it was getting lonely not being able to share my experiences with someone that could relate or care you know

Fully agree. It takes time to promote your work and for word to get around. I actually do most of my promoting on FB, as there aren't a lot of Scooter groups there (or in the world) so links for motovlogs generate views and interest. I have an Instagram page, but I'm really behind in posting stuff because I'm one of the few people on the planet who doesn't use a a cell phone. I use my iPad to upload images, but its a huge pain in the ass to do so. Without a phone their user-interface is for $&!+.

You will see a lot of channels gain subs yet have very low views and also vice versa... I am not stating all, but some channels buy subs, others buy views. Some channels do the sub4sub thing. None of those things will do well for them unless they back it up with consistently good content that people search for.
I don't do sub4sub, and I'll def not pay someone to view a video. Organic growth is the best way for most channels, as it happens at a rate they can control, and deal with.... You kinda get out what you put in. Those that pay to grow, can do so successfully, as can sub4sub.... but only if they put out consistently good content and market it right with descriptions and tags so it gets seen by real people too. But if you can master that bit, then paying for views/subs is still a false economy unless it is a full time job!

That's very true. I guess the only way sub4subs might work is if it's in the same interest field. Like Motovloggers sub4sub as it's same interest and they are more likely to watch your videos. Sub4sub with random people, well it's even more unlikely they'll watch your videos.

As you say, good content is key. For most people it's there first channel and with that comes a learning curve before you find your feet. Everyone develops certain signature to what they do, but it can take a while for it to establish. Growth to quickly, you haven't settled into who you are yet and you'll change before you find your rhythm
