How many of your videos go unposted?

I've never trashed a video, but I have done retakes umpteenth times...

Oh I've definitely done the "okay, this is take 20 and if I screw it up I'll just go with the best of what I've got."

I've probably scrapped a half-dozen overall. Sometimes it's due to a technical issue like weird buzzy audio or camera angles being off, but usually it's because my battery died and I wasn't even recording for half the ride without noticing until I went to edit and was like "uhhhh hey, where's that whole ten-minute spiel about [topic]?"

I have a few projects that will most likely never get done. All the footage is done but in the middle of editing it just didn't turn out the way I wanted and I just scrapped it.

I've only experienced unrecorded footage, as in I thought I had the camera on record, but it was still off.

Normally I will sort thru the taken footage as soon as possible, make a note in the video file name for anything important, and those that have nothing, I delete it. This is all pre-editing. Editing will come at a later time but at least I have already marked what's important in the file name so it's easier to grab what I want quickly.

Being on this lock down has given me time to slowly clear out my back-logs but if they extend it further I probably will run out of back-logs to clear.

Probably this one of today.
Perfect weather: Check
Dual cams: Check
Cams charged: uh oh, one battery down
Mic: SH*T! helmet mic not plugged in!

And I had the perfect opportunity to talk about the crisis, the update on the build, the viffer and all other things where I never talk about in my other videos.. Will be one for next week I think. Redo everything.

Better write something on my tank to make me remember all things what I need to check before I ride...

Most footage I record goes into a buffer of 2TB, then if I have enough footage that I don't need then it goes into the trash. Buffer can go 2 months back of everyday riding.

Nice, this is exactly what i do as well!

I'm the same, if a video just seems.. off, then I will just scrap that bugger and try again. I want to be 100% happy with what I put out.

It's easy for me to look back and think "well that was a pants video", but where's the fun in not have that learning curve of trial and error to find what works best :)

Like many others on here I have also had many recordings find their way into the recycling bin for variety of reasons.

I know some of you are thing, god how bad was the stuff he binned given some of the drivel he has published lol

Yes, i fully agree.
And no, not always. Somethings you know will never happen again, either it be a one of a kind moment, or a bike you maybe got for loan or ...

On the other hand... if everyone ONLY uploaded videos they were 100% happy with most channels would never get off the ground. I think, especially when starting off, a few imperfect videos are no great sin.

I only publish the videos I'm completely happy with, it's only when I look back I see the improvements I could have made :)

I've gone out on rides that I've planned on making a video from and looked through the footage and it's either been currupted, or sound issues or just boring and I've decided "there's nothing to use here." And moved on

And without that, you'd never have anything to look back at and cringe! Hehe. I totally agree. Learning curve, and sometimes when your start out your limited by tools and tech you have. As you grow your tool kit and knowledge both improve.

I spent some time this weekend going through all of my accumulate footage for upcoming motovlogs. I had 11 videos to edit up, some of which were recorded months ago just when I was starting out at this. After some consideration I completely deleted about half of them yesterday! I'm now riding with a two camera setup and I have more experience with this motovlogging thing, and some of my earlier footage was honestly kind of crappy. I plan to reshoot a few of those vids but with dual cameras and more knowledge of what I'm doing.

50%+ of my footage is thrown away entirely. Of the 50% that is left, I'd say 10% makes it through post.

Fortunately, I've consistently recorded audio/video without any major snafus. What has been helpful is that my GoPro on the helmet is mounted just high enough for me to see the red dot blinking, so I do check to make sure it's on.

Reading all these I've realized I really need to stop being a hoarder. I'm the same with everything never want to throw anything away or delete anything.

I need to have a purge of recordings I know I'll never use. I've already got about 4tb! (Classic car / travel and bike.)

I probably scrap 80% or more of my footage - either through talking absolute drivel, fumbling or just generally being a bit crap when talking to camera.

I've completely re-shot several things on different days too...

Sometimes the GoPro doesn't detect the mic adaptor is plugged in, so you end up with just wind noise, that's happened twice.

Other than that I edit a lot out of my videos to try and keep them on topic and short - I know that average retention time is short, so I am consciously cutting out silence etc from my videos where I can, unless something visually stimulating is happening.

I currently have at least 3 unpublished 'episodes', I'm wary of posting more than one video per week too. I try to post on a Friday evening just for consistency. But I also want to bank a load of content ready for winter or bad weather.

Also, once I've edited my raw footage and rendered the final video I delete all the original files. I figure I've had everything useful from them that is worth publishing and isn't embarrassingly rubbish. If I need to change something up then I'll just shoot it again.

I'm just getting started and published my first video in the past 48 hours...will share soon. My thoughts getting into this was that I wanted to do something that is fun and I enjoy while adding something of value hopefully to YT in the vlog space as I enjoy watching good stuff myself. In my mind...I will watch a lot of stuff that is high quality as far as video and audio. If I can't meet that standard I scrap it. It took me awhile to learn the ropes to get something that I felt was decent enough to put out. At the end of the day it is a hobby for me but I want to be proud of what I am putting out because it is out in the public view.
