Stopped by Costco Today....

Was headed out of the city to enjoy a ride out in the countryside and decided to stop by a Costco on the way to pick up a cheap hotdog. I was surprised on how packed it was. Even the traffic around the area was jammed up; people definitely coming out of their virus hibernation. (The 'state of emergency' has been lifted for most of the country and the remaining locations are being lifted in the next day or so...)

Food court line took about 20min and they tried to rope off the concrete seating area, but nobody cared and sat there anyway.

I like this specific Costco location because the bike parking is right in front of the food.

Yeah, my local Costco has stayed super busy throughout all of this. We try to go on weekday nights as it's less full then.

All our local shops are quite full. Restrictions on number of people entering, etc. We've found best time to go was first thing in the morning.

Yes, sorry, this is in Japan. This location was the Makuhari Costco.
People have been out in force since the emergency order was lifted Monday night. It's surreal, I had gotten used to the open spaces with less people.

I was gonna say every costco around me has closed their food courts down completely lol, but then I saw you said that lockdown was lifted

I was getting used to open roads and stuff too, and now it seems like people are going out more

We never had a real lock-down in Japan, the laws here aren't designed to give that kind of power. The emergency order closed public spaces such as parks, government offices (non-essential) and 'suggested' that public places close as well. Restaurants went into take-out only mode, karaoke, clubs, gambling places - all closed. We still could go out and do whatever, but there wasn't anywhere really to go. Costco took away the eat-in section at the locations that had it, but never stopped the shopping or food service. More places are opening back up from tomorrow (5/30) - still keeping things like social distancing and sanitation requirements in place. Time will tell if the virus numbers here stay low or trend upwards again.

Heres what I know about the virus.

It can't travel 1.6 meters only 1.5
It can't live in large apartment stores
It can only live in food if you sit down at a table to eat it.

You are right about it being a little early considering there is no vaccine. I live in a rural county in Tennessee USA and everyday we see an increase in active cases. Luckily no deaths for any residents of this county yet but we are overdue from a numbers standpoint.

Interestingly enough, as much as some leaders are behind reopening the government state and dome federal offices are still remotely working from home as much as possible. One would think if there was enough confidence that reopening is a great idea, then our civil servants would be reporting in person to their offices? I guess 6% death rate for the US is not that good after all.
