What is easier, getting the new subscribers or watch time?

Depends how you use YouTube

1000 subs is easy, just sub for sub with 1000 people. Probably take a week or so.... but if you do that, your watch time will be minimal

On the inverse, if you're making 4000 hours, that's not over the top at all if you're making videos people watch

:)

I wonder if sub 4 subbing with a bunch of people who will never ever watch your videos is a good tactic to get your videos advertised to people who will. Hmm.

I would rather grind for the subs and rub my hands together when I have made people watch 4000 hours of me counting tractors bahaha :D

I've seen videos about sub4sub channels who make the 1000 subs target but never come close to the 4000 hours watched goal. Subs 4 subs typically doesn't work given Youtubes's requirements today, the algorithm sees right through it now.

I'm just doing my best to make good videos which can hopefully be entertaining too. Sure it will grow very slowly and take a long time but I like the "proper" strategy better than the fast track. And who knows, I might never reach the monetization target either, that is a distinct possibility. Good thing I'm doing this because I enjoy it! And if it ever makes me a little bit of extra money then that will just be a sweet bonus to my motovlog hobby.

I've always believed effort + failure = success, given enough time. That's been my experience in life and its worked for me so I'm sticking to it.

TBH, although my views, watchtime and subcount are all going up, the revenue has dropped by 25% to what it was before C19... I wonder if it will return to normal after?
Thanks for the info!
Personally we are watching more of YouTube, but I believe advertisers are probably not running as many ads.

Watch time is more passive, subs need the user to physically click to sub.. So if you go the normal route I assume watch time to go quicker than subs depending on your marketing..
