Morning dudes and dudettes

So considering new camera purchase and fancying exploring the 360 market.

I know some like @HippoDrone use or should I say used the 360 One X, so hoping for some advise.

The original 360, does it need to be connected to your phone in order to record footage or is that just to view the footage? The One X appears to be a stand alone camera as in doesn't need slapped on top of a phone.

Any good alternatives to the Insta options?

Also how easy is editing with the 360 cams, do the work well with Adobe Prem Pro.

Cheers for now.

The One can be used independently I think, but is a lot lower quality footage than the One X, when windowed the One X only just about passes as 1080, so the One is more like 720.
GoPro have a new 360 camera coming out at the end of the month which is waterproof and similar quality to the One X.

I mainly edit my One X footage on my phone, but it also has a basic PC editor. There is a plugin for Adobe iirc, but I don't have Adobe so can't say what it is like to edit with.

Thanks for that. Will check out the GoPro alternative.

Their new one is called the GoPro Max, the have another called the GoPro Fusion, which there are deals on, but it is a lot harder to edit and also requires 2 memory cards, the new Max only needs 1 memory card

Memory cards ain't an issue but harder to edit doesn't sound so good.

The ONE can be used independently from a phone. Live view can be seen on a phone and footage can be downloaded for editing. (If its compatible)
Unfortunately it doesn't work with my phone at all (Moto G4) so I download onto PC for editing which does limit the options.
I think the ONE is more aimed at Apple phones.

Its fine for experimenting with but as Hippo said, its lower quality than the X.
Smashing thanks for info.

Just wasn't keen to have connected to phone sticking out on a stick or on a mount.

There's also a cam called Rylo 360. I'd love to get one but not sure how to edit/incorporate it all together. Maybe once they come down in price or if I can find a used one I'll snag it up but in the meant time just waiting.

Just got myself the Insta360 One X, still figuring out how to do the edits with their software then porting it out for final editing on the FCPX. I saw a guide on how to port the file as a 360 video in .mp4 and do the edit on FCPX but I think for now I will their Insta editor to do the key frames stuff first. Problem is I cannot crop/trim the clip first since I need to sync it with the Hero7 footage have the correct audio track.. Still learning.. :)

I do my editing on my phone as the app is much nicer and the free capture is so much more natural to watch when changing the direction you are viewing.

It seems to be the way that there is a big focus on making apps user friendly and full functionality accessible but a bit of a second or third thought is desktop programming.

Aye. Phones have the accelerometers though which really helps when editing 360 footage, it is so much more clunky on a PC/laptop and comes across as a very digital action rather than flowing and analogue on a phone.
