Battling winter chorosion

Hey guys,

After a 5 year hiatus from riding motorcycles, I started riding again a couple of months ago. I was disheartened to see that only after a week or so of riding on gritted roads, parts on the bike have started to oxidise pretty bad.

Now I know prevention is typically better than a cure in this case; it feels somewhat wrong to be going at effected areas with something as abrasive as steel wool/scrubber to scrape off rust.

However I was wondering if there was a more efficient / better way of clearing up rust on a bike.
What do you winter riders do to keep on top of corrosion?

I have heard that scrunched up tin foil is good for clearing rust off chrome as it is softer it doesn't scratch it. As for prevention, get some ACF50 (in the spray bottle, not the rattle can) and wipe that over everything.

Yh the joys of riding all year round. I'm having the same issue. Just finding a bit of time and somewhere to do it with all the bad weather

Yeah I saw the tin foil trick once before.
I think i'll start scrubbing the bike down once the weather starts to improve....
Current train of thought is "well.... at least it has a protective coating of rust"

Protective coats of rust only help things like centuries old metal bridges.

When you do go to wash, don't forget cooler water is better because warmer water activates the salts faster.

What really bugs me is when the rust grows under the powder coating. I am like, "Now how the F do I cure that short of stripping?"

Then I strip and the neighbors call the cops on me.
