Why do I need an instagram page?!

Do you guys have an instagram page? Do you promote it? How and why?!

Is there any actual good reason to do this (apart from the 'any followers is good' approach)?

It's all about placing your brand on all the social platforms. At least for Instagram it is now linked to my FB page so when I post on IG it's automatically shared on the FB page, saves me the effort. I mostly use IG as a photo album to store all the photos I take.

What I don't get till this date is Twitter. Now that's something really worthless to me yet I'm on there and just spam links automatically with the YouTube upload option thing. Twitter I have zero FFFFs for.

I also struggle with Twitter, I use it, but it really does nothing to help my channel I don't think. As for instagram, as @SighBored mentioned, you can link it to your page so it cross posts.... I posted an image on instagram the other day, which cross posted onto my Hippo-Drones facebook page, I shared the image with a few other pages and it has now been viewed by 10,284 people, and has given my facebook page 20+ new likes, which in turn have had some of those sub to my YouTube channel, so yes, I think it can be good for your channel. But you do have to do more than just take a pic, you need to share any photos on the sites where it will be most relevant! :)
It sounds like a lot of effort, but it really isn't as long as you share it in the right places.

I have one and use it more than youtube. However I treat it as a separate thing most of the time.
I will post the odd youtube related thing but its mostly its own thing.

Someone explain exactly what Instagram is actually about? Is it photo sharing, a social network or what?
Honestly I do not know, I believe it started as a photo sharing, like in the moment kinda thing, you post what you're doing in a pic, but some use it to sell things/services, etc. It can be whatever you want. You could post a thumbnail of your recent video in your Insta with the video link in the caption for people to go check it out, no that I do that. I just use it as a photo album/collection.

it is basically like twitter but with pictures.... so less effort for the viewer... but you can link to your page/channel and share photos easily with facebook (they own it). You follow folk like you do on twitter but can see images that relate to things you like

I have used it for just bike photos (my recent post on here of a pic of my KTM is an instagram pic) but also as @SighBored said, you can post the thumbnail to your latest video if that floats your boat too... I've done this and it has seemed to increase views on my videos... although that could be coincidence. I have had an increase in subs on YouTube at times too although hard to tell as subs show up around 2 days after they click the sub button from what I have seen

I have at least one follower that I know personally that dumped Facebook due to all the fascist, racist, mysogynist, stuff she was getting hit with from a local motorcycle community so she uses Instagram to keep in touch with my riding adventures through still photos. Apparently the trolls have not found here there yet or at least have not antagonized her like they did on FaceBook.

Me, I post still photos on Instagram a slight variation on Facebook. I post moving pictures more than 30 seconds on YouTube with announcements on Facebook and Instagram.

I have found followers on Instagram that I have no clue why they follow me other than they l Iike the still shots.

Is it me or do American Facebook circles suffer incredibly from such fascist, racist etc stuff?

Because before I started adding a couple of American riders on Facebook, the people on my feed (mostly Singaporean and Malaysian) were more concerned about complaining about rising costs of living.

And when I added this guy from California, all of a sudden my wall has the occasional share of misogynistic stuff.

Now unlike the reactions most westerners would have to this thing, I'm not particularly offended enough to explode and go into a SJW tirade, but I am offended enough to feel irked.

It is not you. We did not suffer the same as most other countries (unless you are a minority in some areas here) therefore some do not see the problem with being offensive to others.

Free speech has a price when it is used to harm rather than create.

Guys just a friendly reminder, check your instagram accounts. I haven't logged into mine for a month (dead phone), and when I logged in i magically was following 300 people (39 before). There was a massive Instagram hack in september, so I bet they are selling our accounts follows (I mean if someone buys followers it is actually our accounts). So check your details, change pass etc. Take care.

Personally not worried, I'm constantly using IG everyday to curate my gallery so this sort of shit won't go unnoticed lol.

Personally I used every social platform I could think of in the beginning and saw what stuck, personally for me Google+ is the worst for anything motorcycling.

Get an Instagram (followers are good). But more importantly getting followers on IG is much much easier than Youtube. People will see 1 photo they like and then follow you. You then have a larger platform to push your videos.
