Crashed

Shifty

Motovlogger
after 30 years I suffered my first accident today.
Brand new tyres, 1 mile out and front tyre let loose at 15 miles an hour on a small roundabout

Brand new tires are crazy scary. They never stick well until they are properly scuffed in.

Hope you're ok.

Hope its just your ego that's broken and no bones. Much damage to the bike?

Just my ego, road was cold and damp and tyres and front wheel bearings were 1 mile new and cold. I momentarily forgot I was on brand new rubber and ride it as I would normally cold. I was doing less than 20 mph. Bike leaning left to right. Then very gracefully it slid onto its side for about 4-5 metres.

I'm going to change back to a big sports bike for a lower centre of gravity!

It's ridiculous the amount of damage done in a slow speed off. Oh and I have a big sports bike but unfortunately when I ride it the centre of gravity is quite high up again.

I thought they'd done away with them being so bad when new. Think most people who I've spoken to who said if you ride normally within the limits and be smooth, there's never an issue.

And especially from a T30

Same, I had ridden this little roundabout in town 1000 times and also obviously ridden loads of new tyres over the past 30 years, it's also one that it's small and slow so it's a max 15 mph. So it was strange but I had also had my brake fluids changed and bearings. So it could have been a perfect storm with fluids on it from the workshop, factoring tread and damp tarmac. It hasn't rained for ages too.
Just one of those things and to be honest if that's the worse that has happened in 30 years! I couldn't imagine taking any slow without looking like I was on ice!

Going by your previous post, unless there was a damp invisible slick on the road, I'd have a very close look at the workmanship for loose fluids/grease, although brake fluid won't affect grip. Bearing grease will

Depends. Amongst us bike mechanic types we still recommend treating new tires like death until they've run about 100 miles. Better safe than sorry.

anyway I'm straight up to Wales on friday on it (bike due back on Thursday) i better get them scrubbed in before then !
