Same, but I only use my sponsored helmet for my motovlogging (I was sponsored by Spyder as a stunt rider)Even if you dont vlog its always good to have a spare helmet mate. I have a helmet preference regardless, but all my helmets have camera mounts just incase.
Yes, I have specific helmets setup just for motovlogging, or really just for helmet camera recording. In these helmets I've placed the microphone attachments securely and just need to swap only the camera unit. Makes it easier to switch helmets. I have two for this purpose (helmet mount/motovlog) because the AGV K3 fits a bit loose and heavy, not so comfortable for fast riding, so I have the Shoei XR1100 for when I want to go fast/long distance. I am planning to get a Shark Race R Pro to replace the K3 though, will custom decals. We'll see how it goes.
When I'm not planning to do any helmet camera shooting or motovlogging then I generally pick any one of the other helmets I have that do not have any type of mount on them.
If you use open face helmet, you can still have "chin mount" style but stuck on the lower part of your visor, sure it looks a bit off but it's possible to do.
Any reason why you didn't just slap the 3M sticky right on the chin vent piece? Looks pretty flat and suitable for a 3M mount, though I don't know if that vent slider is secure.Yeah, hooked up the mount and microphone to my AGV AX8 helmet because that's the only helmet I have in my collection that'll allow for a chin mounted view. The rest needed a side mount and while I don't really mind, always felt like the chin view is the best for vlogs, so that's the primary angle. Will go for the side mount views when absolutely have to.
I saw the AGV K3 SV review you did, part of the final push I needed to convince me to go for it. Did you eventually replace your vlogging helmet with the Shark or did you maintain with your AGV K3 SV?
I know this is not what you meant, but reading your post made me imagine. If you had to go pick up your lady from her place, how do you usually transport her helmet then?Always good to have a second helmet for putting a good looking girl on the back![]()
Answered you on the first few parts on a different post. I left out a bit about the inconvenience though. If you use an AGV like me, its basically even more of a pain in the ass to set the helmet down anywhere. You know how the AGV has this aggressive hawksbill design on most of their helmets (kind of what makes them so sexy in the first place but at the same time) making them pretty hard to set on a flat surface because you have to put them on the exact center to balance them right? Well my setup means that a lot of the goPro screws further extend that hawksbill downward, making it now damn near impossible to set on a table properly; it'll tilt left or right most of the time and topple over (you can see in my picture that the helmet is placed on its back edge to flatten it instead of having the whole helmet on the table.).Any reason why you didn't just slap the 3M sticky right on the chin vent piece? How's the feel of a side mount extended to center setup? If it's not bad, the balance is there, I would consider doing such a setup.. Maybe on an AGV Corsa for myself.. LoL..
I am still on the hunt for a snugger fitting plain/no graphic helmet, meanwhile I'm more frequently using the Shoei XR-1100 as my primary recording helmet for now.
Yup, the bottom part of the lid is not flat and angular, that's normal, next time try propping it on top of your gloves or waist pouch....it'll tilt left or right most of the time and topple over (you can see in my picture that the helmet is placed on its back edge to flatten it instead of having the whole helmet on the table.)...
...Also, if you didn't set the mount tight enough, setting your helmet on a table with the mount supporting some of the helmet's weight can sometimes move the mounts and screw with your camera angle. Little bit annoying sometimes...
...If my K3 SV is anything to go by, the upper echelons of the AGV helmet might have an even more aggressive cut which makes it damn near impossible to mount on the chins...
...If you're looking for snug, I don't think the AX8's for you. =) Its pretty loose. I mean.. It fits looser as compared to the K3 SV racer type cuts... It doesn't push up your cheeks or "clamp" your neck nearly as aggressively as the racer cuts. I slide in and out of the helmet pretty comfortably whereas it feels like squeezing out of my mum's tummy all over again everytime I put on or take off the K3 SV.
Ah! That might just work! Damn. Thanks for the idea!Yup, the bottom part of the lid is not flat and angular, that's normal, next time try propping it on top of your gloves or waist pouch.
Use a screwdriver and tighten the mounts, just half turn more with the screwdriver after you have finger-tighten the mount to keep it sturdier in place.
I was asking all about mounting on the side and routing to the front because I had thought about AGV Corsa but mounting the camera similar style as your AX8.
AGV helmet sizing and fitment is a bit tricky, and from your description you might not be having the correct size helmets, helmets should fit snug, and not cause any immense pressure, best way to know is if you can wear it more than 30 minutes without any discomfort while being proper snug, then you have the right one.
Thanks for your feedback. RSSR!
GoPro screwdriver? You can just use any Philips head screwdriver.. LoL.. They may slope but it looks flat to me.. If I do get a Corsa I'll see what can be done..Ah! That might just work! Damn. Thanks for the idea!
Yep. Just got myself one of those goPro screw drivers. Godsent, I tell ya.
I know. Isn't the Corsa's chin bar pretty aggressively shaped too? I mean, it has curves and all right? Outward curvature you can handle. Slap tape on the extremities and you're golden. AGV's chin bars, though, tend to slope inward. Harder to adjust with extra tape.
Yeah. Got me one of them cheapo (RM8 ish) screwdrivers that'll crank the GoPro screws instead of using the metal screws built in them. I know, I know, the Philips head screw drivers would work too, but I don't wanna risk destroying the threads of the screw heads.GoPro screwdriver? You can just use any Philips head screwdriver..
