Super View Option On Gopro 3+ And 4 Models

i don't think this will have much relevance for most riders, it's just a handy feature on the gopro 3+ and 4 models if your video footage is bouncing around a fair bit.

instead of '1080' under you resolution, choose '1080S'.

in a nutshell, it films in 4:3 aspect which uses the entire sensor of the gopro and captures a 'taller' image. it then stretches the edges of the image to become wide screen e.g. the standard 16:9 aspect.

ADVANTAGES
- smooths out the footage a lot
- gets the bars in view nicely
- camera angle doesn't matter so much
- feels more immersive.

DOWNSIDE
- you really need to tailgate the guy in front or he'll look like a dot in the distance
- knocks about a third off your battery life to do that extra processing
- not much good for handfilming as it distorts objects in the edges of the image
- you might notice a slight drop in quality (drops from 35000 to 30000kbps on my gopro black 4).

it definitely works a treat for dirt riding as the wider angle smooths out the jarring considerably, as can be seen in this video...

As I said on your video, I quite like it. It works especially well on a chin mount on the dirt. I find that even with the chin mount, if I'm standing and riding you still can't really see the bike. This gives us a nice view of everything including the bike, and it feels a lot faster as well. Thumbs up for super view!

I get no difference in battery life on my 3+ black. Have you updated your 4's firmware?

there was a bug in the older firmware that gave crap battery life with certain settings.

I'm not a fan of superview though, everything looks too distorted for me.

Jeepers. thats an awesome feature!
So battery life is sacrificed though? Wouldnt an @EN187 battery pack thing help?

definitely marbro. i didn't know it chewed batteries and thought mine was on the way out as it was almost dead by the end of the ride... normally i have a least a third left.

thanks for the headsup swissmotard, i'll give that a try. the gopro website does say it will use about a third more battery but possibly they've found a way around it?

I use the medium view personally. I found that Superview took away from detail in front (fish eye). I switched to Near view and that was way too close. Mid works nicely because I find that by catching the cluster on the bike helps stabilize the environment better. Just my opinion.

just wondering guys, would it be possible to cut an extra bit of foam to slip over the mike? or is it too close to your face already? when i'm hand filming with the gopro at a standstill, if it's a windy day i have a little bit of foam i put over the built in mike at the top of the gopro... does a brilliant job even in 20mph winds so might work in a road helmet too?

I just have the regular foam that came with the mic. It's tucked into my cheek pad (I didn't cut the pad or anything). It's snug and sometimes I can feel the pressure on my temple when I'm pulling it off/putting it on. I just keep the visor shut completely now. It's not perfect but the sound has drastically improved.

Plenty of folk add extra foam, nitrile gloves and fluffy stuff to cut out wind. Search on YT for "deadcat", be few DIY guides on there.

I'm gonna try that tomorrow. I've always used the Superwide, and I agree with losing a fraction of detail in the immediate front
