Thumbnails... Are they killing your videos?

I struggle with thumbnails, in that I throw them together very quickly with very little thought and simply go with it. I just don't spend much time on them, but I know I probably should.

I found a style I like and just roll with it.

You can tell it's one of mine from a half mile away... same as yours. I can tell about half the channels I sub to have posted videos, when I'm scrolling through my feed.

Because I can't get photoshop elements installed at the moment I might do a test...
And just use youtube thumbnails, nothing else.
