I was looking into getting a YZR600 today but I wanted to get some feedback on it. Overall good bikes? Positive and Negative things about them?

I was like "what's a YZR? never heard of one of them", then i googled it and realised it's a Yamaha Thundercat, not that any of this helps because i know nothing about them :P

Lol don't feel bad, I didn't know it was called 'thundercat' either.

My buddy has one. I think his is somewhere around an 02-03. He seems to really like it. It was his first so I guess it's a decent bike for learners but he now makes it do all of his bidding so it's strong enough for a semi-experienced rider. If it's the right price I say do it man!

well it's the same engine as in the Fazer (except it's not detuned) so must be good :P

The old fazer puts out about the same power as the thundercat, the new Fazers engine comes from the 2003 R6 and is probably quicker than the Thundercat, so not much detuning went on there!

I meant the old Fazer has the thundercat engine, '01 model is about 95bhp, not sure on the thundercat's power.

The FZS Fazer has more mid-range power and peak torque is delivered at a lower RPM than the Thundercat. TC is revvier and more like a sports oriented bike in power delivery. Supposed to be very capable all-round bikes though :-)

Plus Thundercat sounds pretty cool!

well struck out again. I haven't heard anything back from the guy so just have to dismiss it as he sold it to someone else. Frustrating :?

Give him a day or two to respond. He may be unexpectedly busy.

True, I guess I am just inpatient sometimes. The guy end up calling me about 30 minutes later and we met up. The bike wasn't all that bad looking but I just had a bad feeling when it didn't have any license plates, wasn't resigstered, top on the fact someone owned him money and gave him the bike instead. Granted he was selling it for good price, I just was iffy about the whole situation of sell, so I passed.

Yeah that is kind of sketch. Don't buy a bike from someone unless it is registered under their name. I almost bought a bike that wasn't registered in the sellers name, but I went ahead and paid him a couple hundred extra to get the bike registered in his name that day so it made me feel safer about buying the bike from him.

Right on. This dude was rather shady so I think I was wise to decline to buy. It wasn't all bad bike, little beat up looking and had something like 43K miles on it. He said if he didn't end up selling it, he would have just scraped it and sell the parts.

Good idea to walk away there.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Thundercat. My old bike instructor rode one and loved it to bits. I think of it as Yamaha's version of the CBR600F vs the RR.
