Youtube warnings and strikes

Don't wannabe
There have been a few topics here that ended up discussing youtube strikes. As the original idea behind those threads was more narrow, I thought I'd create a new one instead posting in one of those.
Youtube informed me that there are new guidelines about strikes, and this is the video it led me to.

I think it seems relatively clear general process. Easy enough to understand.

Those new warnings, strikes, taking a class all remind me of this...

Funny enough, I got a copyright claim this morning on a video I uploaded last night. On a track I've used 100 times, with attribution.

Something must've changed in that site's licensing, and now that track has a 34-euro license fee. Currently replacing it for this video, hoping there aren't more claims my way.

FWIW, YouTube says it's not a black mark on my channel, just a claim, but I'm replacing the track moving forward [I use it for a specific type of scene].

Oh that’s annoying. I had a similar thing happen recently but with Facebook. A track I use often on YT+FB was flagged up on FB recently and it worried the heck out of me. Had a warning from Warner Bros but I challenged it and awaiting their answer. I thought royalty free would mean no issues at all but perhaps some companies change their mind to get greedy?

The Content ID system - or whatever FB uses that's similar - sometimes screws up.

Royalty-free is supposed to be just that - but a lot of the time you have to have the proper attribution in your video description, or you get a copyright claim.

C'est la vie!

Ahh, I see. I get all my music from YT music area thing and never saw the attribution in description, but that does make sense so I’ll be doing that going forward - thank you ☺️

Creators can absolutely change their mind, over time, if they will start charging royalties.
Fun fact - DJ's who make remixes make exactly 0 of any currency, from the remixes they make. They can only get money from the "live" performances, and royalties all go to the authors of the samples.

Thanks for dropping some knowledge - was curious on that

So, there's 2 YT audio libraries now... the royalty-free Audio Library, and the shared-revenue library, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

So, depending on which area of the YT library you got your track from, it may or may not be royalty-free.

The royalty-free I'm referring to, is external sites that host tracks and give you an attribution text block you need to add to your video description to avoid strikes.

I just get a message, I'm not allowed to see the page :D
Conspiracy!

Try searching for YouTube Studio. Look for the one that does not mention buying a license - only attribution and non-attribution.

YouTube is trying make their own music marketplace for buying licensed music. Sure they offer some bigger names but I am not spending that kind of money just yet.

The good old one looks like this:

The new version to pay to play looks like this:

I just had the same maybe it’s only available for certain aged channels?

Ahh phew I’ve been using the old one after all

I think I just solved it. The link has your channel ID in it. so basically, if you just go to studio, then add /music to the end of the link it redirects you to, that works.
Thank you for catching that. I have asked the Admin to make the edit to my post.
