Okay so I rode my 2008 Kawasaki ER6F into work today from my house.

Took 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The bike has a restrictor kit fitted pulling it from 73 to 33.

Once I got off the motorway.. I almost shed a tear because the bike generally got louder..
Almost sounded like a bloody KTM..

And I can hear a metal rattling inside the engine/Fuel tank area.

Also when I rev it to 4,000 RPM it sounds like the engine is going to tear itself apart.
The bike slightttly starts vibrating more than usual and the clunking inside the engine just gets louder at 4,000 but stops from then on.

I might be able to post a video but its on my iPhone - Anyone know where I can upload it to..?

I bought this bike for 2400 on Saturday, with 23,000 miles off my LANDLADY.
Her BF restricted it for £225 at his Motorbike shop - BikeSmart
(Servicing & Motorcycle Training)

Now this happens..
What are the chances. I feel like screaming.

Sounds like you need to have a chat with the landlady. Funny that she sells a bike and suddenly it starts acting up...

When was the restrictor put in?

Deeper noise might be that the air filter has become disconnected... will make the bike run shitty as too much air and give a lot of induction noise.

I'd ask her what the crack is?

Say to her you know there Is a fault but would appreciate her telling you what it is so you have a chance of rectifying it.

Failing that be careful you don't upset her or your rent could go thru the roof

Okay.

Already had a bit of a rage at her.
She knows that bikes are the main thing in my life.

Just where the end can slips on to the pipe, it has snapped open.
Apparently a common problem with the ER6Fs (Coincidence that this happened under a week of her selling it to me..?)

On top of that, as Clarky might have pointed out, Whenever I let off the throttle at high RPM, it sounds like a bloody dump valve.

Finally I said that I think there might be something wrong with the engine. It's pretty much ruined my 'fun day' of riding to work in london and back cause I was shitting myself the whole time.
She started flaming at me saying what a load of rubbish. If you thought there was any problem you should have got off and left the bike there... In... London... -_-

I'm Seeing red at the moment.

To sum up.. I walked upstairs and she starting sniggering to my housemate, saying that 'Engine Problems? What a load of shit!'

She's well know for refusing to pay money for anything as much as possible (She even forced me to pay £3 for a few phone calls that I allegedly made on the landline...), but completely blitz money on herself all the time.

Ugh...
-_-

Hopefully some exhaust paste can seal it up. Looks like a clean rip. Maybe even a weld.

She sounds like my Landlady when i was in student housing!

To be honest i havnt been on bikes all that long to know whats going on, but my exaust can did come lose at one stage and it changed the way the bike ride completely.

Sorry to be not of much use!

As littledevilbiker knows, mine did so on the way back from kent in like june or may. My advise would be to try some exhaust sealant around the pipe above the flange and on the port itself. Also check the Air filter, can cause quite a nasty noise if there is a hole. With the metal sound That might be worth asking a mechanic about.

This is the ER6f/Ninja 650r bible.
It should be read by anyone looking to buy one.

I have read about the original stock exhaust being too heavy for the bracket and would eventually snap.

Also engine mount bolts are a number one culprit for vibrations.

Considering they're much the same bike on the lower half, this might explain why my versys exhaust fell to bits.
