Literally exactly 48 hours after buying it...
So backstory, I know I haven't been active here too much but I've been starting to lurk with the nice riding season coming and been getting my camera set up back together to start vlogging again. Anyways I sold my 08 zzr with 2000 miles on it (bought in january with 900 miles), sold it sunday. Then monday i went and picked up my new bike, 07 zx6r with 1k miles on her completely mint for the same price I sold my zzr for.
So monday was 75 degrees and beautiful. Now yesterday, today, and the rest of the week is supposed to continue being crappy in the 40s/50's with storms and snow. I rode my ZZR through a lot of snow/sleet/etc and never had an issue so rain isn't a big deal for me. I needed to mail the title of my ZZR to the owner, and my room mate's car was blocking my car in the garage and I didn't want to bother her to move it so I hopped on the bike and dropped of the letter. Then on the way to my University's library, I was going through an intersection, literally my front tire was entering the intersection when a guy in a trailblazer made an illegal left turn in front of me. I had absolutely no time to do anything, I instantly thought it was either hit him or dump it. Figured I had a better chance if I dumped it so I locked the brakes and bailed.
The guy stopped luckily and was super apologetic said he hadn't seen me and such. We picked up the bike and got it out of the intersection. I'm perfectly fine, was wearing my gear though it was my basic stuff(mesh jacket with a lining, kevlar jeans, helmet, my cheap cold weather gloves) but it all did great and I don't even feel like I've went down.
Anyway, bike's left side ended up pretty bruised up cosmetically. The frame and all came away clean. Pegs/shifter/bar end/clutch lever all have some scuffing on them. Left & bottom fairing is completely toast, front fairing got busted off at the screw mounts so I'll probably end up needing to replace it. Mechanically the bike is fine, I rode it home no problem after removing the pieces of fairing it was dragging.
I didn't technically have insurance on it but my insurance company gives me a 5 day grace period so I actually am covered, but the other guy was at fault and admitted everything to the police officer on the scene and he has insurance. He was cited for failure to yield.
Riding it to a dealer tomorrow to get an estimate. Hoping I can get a nice check from his insurance, order all new OEM stuff get it painted nicely and then install it myself to save some money on labor, hopefully have enough left over for a dampener since the 1 night I rode it I can tell I want one. That is, if it doesn't get totaled but I wouldn't think it will.. I mean it's still a newer bike valued around 5500. I hope it doesn't, I'm in love with it.
Here's a picture, scene of the accident.
