Wrap around hand guards

Well im hoping on installing some wrap around hand guards and just wanted to know if someone has had to this before? Ive looked up about it and some of the videos shown on how to do it say that i have to drill/hack saw a hole in the end of the handlebars. Would this effect any part of the bike?

dependant on what ones you get some just tighten up in the end of the bars and then around the bars some you need to tap the thread in the end of the bar to bolt into

okay, well my bike doesnt have bar ends, so i guess i will have to drill into the end of the handlebar, dont want to mess things up though!
