Diggin' It
Hey guys, searched for "programmer" & "software engineer" here and found only few guys.

Knowing how many people want to make a game / become a developer and being a SWE myself for ~7 years, starting as independent iOS gamedeveloper on iPhoneOS2 - I've been thinking if this topic will be interesting for someone?

I can cover how to start, open source, ios, gamedev, interviewing for big companies - stuff like that.
Probably it's more interesting for younger folks, who are thinking about trying programming, but maybe can be useful for pros too.

What do you think? If you would be interested - post your questions here or just vote Yes, so I'll know how useful this can be. Just looking for potential topics for my motovlog and this probably would be my best area.

Thanks!

I'd certainly be interested in some advice, Being an artist means I rely a lot on programmers to make my stuff come alive, but in the end, I also want to be able to prototype a bit on my own.
Also programming would turn me into a proper generalist.

So, maybe a good initial topic would be, where should you go if you want to at least start prototyping gameplay. What languages and engines are recommended etc.

I think it could be a good series, but I don't see how it would make sense as a Motovlog. Maybe consider it as a stand alone project.

If you really wanna do a video series on programming, motovlogging makes no sense.

You need to show and tell from the computer screen, not on a bike, otherwise no one will understand what you are referring to.

Hell, i do SQL, wouldn't be able to pick it up if the guy teaching me was just rambling about it instead of providing visual examples on screen with the appropriate query.

Hmm. Not sure.

I do marketing that's aimed an conversion rates etc. I work with devs, day in, day out. I'm not sure if I'd go out my way to watch one riding a motorbike as I'm searching for something from a developer, it's for help aka nicking ideas and can't imagine how you'd pull that off while riding?

Worth doing a test run and just see?

Maybe not about the specific things you mentioned. What about cool things in the world of programming? Nothing technical, but more Wow factor stuff. Maybe in how much detail newer engines can bring out as compared to older ones. And rather than a single vlog, mix it up with your normal content.

I think it's important to differentiate between information about the realm of programming and straight up tutorials.

The first can be done as a motovlog, you wouldn't be trying to teach something particular in C#. Just plain information like general advice that doesn't need proper illustration. That could work out.
But if those videos had a lot of sidetracking and non-related content, it wouldn't be of much use.

If you need to show how something is done, then I'd just go for the hands on approach instead.
In the end, you create the content you want to make. It's not like there is any restrictions.
