Can't wait for Windows 8! For those not in the know, it has the functionality of Windows 7 that many are already using today, but allegedly with a very strong focus towards touch-interface and far greater performance enhancements than even were seen from the Vista to W7 optimization, particularly in cold-boot time.

Well, Microsoft has released a demo on a HP laptop to show the latter is already a done-deal:

HOLY COW!

Here's a vid showing what W8 looks like so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p92QfWOw88I

Those fVcking ribbon bars are overtaking every program out there - makes me want to.... nevermind. That's what happens when software developers are trying to make programs take on a "game like" romperoom experience. Rant over.

Isn't user-friendly a good thing?

As long as the advanced features are still there, I figure its good that stuff is intuitive. If its just a GUI layer though, I'm sure like in W7 and Vista before it they will have a 'classic' mode available since that doesn't affect functionality/performance for those resistant to change. :)

OSX does take it to a bit of an extreme though, with the new iMac looking like a 27" iPad, heh. :P

That boot time is awesome.

However, my new job is working with a ton of artist-types, so I'll be switching to Mac to gain their acceptance.

And the first thing I'll do is install Win7.

The boot time I am sure is due to an SSD. My son added a 256 Meg one to his wickedly fast machine running win 7 and it amazing the difference even from a 7200 drive. They are great for video work

Oh for sure, however, even w/ a good SSD on a netbook (minimalist bios) running TinyXP Rev09, you simply don't get THAT fast of a bootup.

I posted this in the youtube comments:
this is an EliteBook, and it will not show a HP post logo on a wakeup resume.
what MS likely did is recoded the OS so you can load a bare minimum of services needed to display a desktop splash screen and establish connectivity. other services are then likely loading for a while after.
it also doesn't hurt that this laptop has a very fast SSD harddrive, which isn't all THAT much slower than RAM.

No matter what improvements are made to mac or windows, I'll always make the thinking mans choice and side with Linux.

Deleting windows was the best decision I ever made. It made my 6 year old dell laptop run better than it ever had and it poo's all over my girlfriends vaio on windows 7 ultimate and her dads MacBook pro running on snow leopard when it comes to boot times

This has to be fake.
clever editing and special effects.
Nothing from MS can be that fast.
and no notebook I have met POST's that quick, nevermind the OS.
and its MS I mean realy???

Excellent tips. Really useful stuff .Never had an idea about this, will look for more of such informative posts from your side.. Good job…Keep it up
